HDCD format

    I have to say Oedipus, that I agree with everything single thing you have said in this thread.

    I personally don't like HDCD. It is not standard Redbook, and although HDCD encoded discs will play on standard (non HDCD decoding) CD players, they do not sound right.

    oedipus - I had not heard that before, and so looked it up...

    You're correct (of course). And dcathro may well be also... the LSB is used as a control signal, so HDCDs played in a non-HDCD player are only 15 bit resolution.

    That suggests that were I to repeat the HDCD vs non-HDCD version test on a non-HDCD player, the result should be reversed assuming the player to have low enough jitter to resolve that last bit.
