But you're going out there for months at a time... The language is the same.

Seriously, I recommend a visit to South America one winter, it's not that far away and the time difference is only 3-4 hours.

I resent that remark ;) at least when it freezes you can do something useful, like keep fit xc skiing, skate on one of the thousands of lakes up here under a crystal clear-blue unpolluted sky. None of that plus degrees UK fog and rain chilling you to the bone. Plus the summers are excellent, swimming in the same lakes in the 20c+ water. Just a bike ride from our 25000 pop town I can get lost in woods if I want, some never ever cultivated, at the same time we have shopping malls but I never see a traffic jam, high income but low crime, one of the world's best health services and average life span, a benevolent government, oil income, equitable taxes, unemployment at 80% income for a year, child leave for a year to take, man or woman ... need I go on? I think you are looking to the wrong point of the compass. No, on second thoughts, mod, pls delete this post, we don't want the world to find out ...

    Steve,

I've never been to Norway and I doubt I'll ever want to go there.

I have nothing against Norwegians but I don't want to visit a country where alcohol is taxed to the hilt. 5 GBP for a pint or 26 GBP for a bottle of whisky from a state off-licence - now that smacks of nannying socialism to the extreme!

And a meal for two costing in excess of100 GBP.

    No thanks!

No wonder you lot didn't want to jon the EU - it'd be too exciting.

Heard the joke about three Norwegians and a single bottle of beer

They call it a party. :(

That's your loss TBH. It is an amazingly beautiful country. THe Telemark is an astonishing place, and the North / Lapland in high summer is out of this world

Many of these buildings were built by the Arabs, who were kicked out in 1492.
No doubt they were too competitive in the building trade.

Funny thing is it's the new ones that are a nightmare, don't fart too loudly and stick a sock in the girlfriends/wifes mouth scenerio, the acoustics are dreadful, and how they build will scare you, then they put the outer rendering, nice decoration, paint job,and everyones happy, till you live in it.

The problem now is as mick says high demand, and not enough skilled labours,so alot of unskilled labour imagrants of no skill are working on these houses, and some of the finishes are shocking, but get a good spainard, profesional, skilled, and some of the work is stunning! tile choices, marbles, brickwork can be absolutely first class, but at a price.

Where as a older house, the walls are solid,no cracks and appear to weather better.

Never been to Cordoba, but Seville is magnificent, very old and charming, and of course la Alambra (amazing) in Granada along with the sierra Nevada for skiing,Andalucia has alot to offer, just keep of the Costa Del sol/crime.

Thanks for the reply and if we do go ahead with this, we will buy an oldish house in a quiet backdrop. We want peace and quiet not clubbers and drunks etc.

    Regards

    Mick
