If you mean England, that may be just because it is actually less hot than most places and you simply are not used to it. If you spend a vacation at Dubay, the heat will be expected. At home you expect 'normal' weather.

If you compare with the Mediterranean, Britain is much cooler, but also much damper; and hot and damp (as in India) is very difficult to cope with.

what i meant was the heat in england, even if the same temperature as the likes of Spain, is more uncomfortable. I can go to spain when its over 30 deg and be more comfortable than this. Its just humid.

it's the humidity - to simplify - the more water there is in the air - the less effective sweating is as a means of cooling yourself so not only do you stay hot but sweat stays on you making it feel worse.
a gentle breeze will help somewhat but add a dehumidifier to really help.
mediterainian countries have a more arrid climate so will usually be less humid.

 Well, yes, that is what I said... Or is the word 'damp' no longer used in the sense of humid?

A small point: Mediterranean climate is not arid: it is just dry in the summer months; and that curtails the water suply to plants in their growing phase. So, the mediterranean vegetation is chiefly composed of slow growing trees and shrubs. The aridity is a consequence of something different: the fact that those areas were overexploited. Where they were not, vegetation is very abundant.

you shouldn't have to sweat at work, I think there should be an upper temp for office workers, I don't see why I should be make to work in temps 30c+ just cos the air con has bust (again!).

I'm personally sick of it, our office is in the converted roof space of the building, so gets the sun from morning to evening, they fitted the cheapest air con units possible, and they keep tripping out cos they can't keep the place cool.

We have desk fans, but what's the point, they're just blowing around warm air. It'll be shorts and a vest top if things don't improve next week, that'll scare 'em.
