to be fair, his design was unusual by the standards of the show.

Re-inventing the wheel seems not an unreasonable comment to me. I see no new technology, just old technology used in a very slightly different twist.

Its an omni directional speaker with a ribbon tweeter and an external crossover...

He did say that they could be placed almost anywhere within a room, and the would look cool in a swish modern apartment.

    I'm sure they look ok.

I'm not completely au fait with omni directional speakers, but I haven't read anything to suggest they are immune from boundary reinforcement etc.

Well, funny you should say that... Myself and Vincent were sleeping in the hotel room when at around 2am a guy from the hotel staff let himself in the room, turned all the lights on said 'oh, your sleeping?' and then something about taking pictures! It gave me a shock, lol!

Jeez...that sounds well dodgy. He wasn't a big black man, by any chance? And I hope Vincent and you had a nice time ;)

Well for me, my two main highlights on the Sunday were:

    1) The Totem room - these speaker are supremely musical and without any pretence.
    2) Transcriptor - WOW! First time I heard them at a demo. Their new Spider turntable is EXTREMELY expressive.

Also the Audiokraft room worked very nicely (heard it with the slimmer loudspeakers they had, not the large Martens) - very coherent.

Great to see Electrocompaniet back - even though the Director couldn't stop talking during the closed demo (hey, more music less chat! ;) )

My wife liked the free bags from Emille, so she'll be promoting high-end valve audio as she walks around town with it :D

Sadly all three Naim rooms missed the mark. The Audio Note room smelt badly, so didn't stay long.

    Best,

    Andrew Randle

Hey, excellent - I wasn't that impressed myself but I'm really glad that some folks are. Just goes to prove the point of my earlier post that it all comes down to personal preference and priorities in sound reproduction!

BTW the designer is Paul Burton - one of the great loudspeaker innovators in the industry IMO. He was heavily involved in NXT technology for a while - a very novel design concept.
Dismiss him at your peril :)

The Tom Tom room wasn't predominantly a Naim room. There were three T/Ts with cartridges from different manufacturers, including a Funk'd LP12, and Kudos speakers. Only the CDS3 and amps were Naim. The Funk'd LP12 sounded best to my ears, and certainly didn't miss the mark. It was bloody good. The Avid was next best.

That was me. I cracked one off just before you went in ;)

You must have seen me coming :D

IIRC it was the Arro'ed LP12 being used at the time. Considering the cost, the result was too shackled.

"Shackled"? Pray define, Dr Randle. I fear your penchant for bondage has clouded your reasoning.

hey guys, why don't we organise our own hi-fi show in a very outrageus way? say more like a big hi-fi fair , just like the old days, no upstards allowed, only piss heads, headbangers, and etc.

    Hi All,
Sounds like a great idea chaps. What about a mutualy acceptable venue as far as travelling is concerned. Will don my old headbanging and piss head gear. How about a hi-end hi-fi rave? Really getting into this idea.
    Just keep on rocking.
