I found out you don't have to pay for the service and can ask them to take it off the bill. So when you buy a drink at the bar they tell you how much then give you a recipt after. So check your recipts and don't be afraid to tell them.

    Ah!

The Thermos Flask. The Navy Blue Anorak. The Musical Fatality Carrier Bag full of wasted Brazilian rain forest. The occasional rocking on the heels accompanied by the odd "Baahh!"

Damn I'm going to miss the atmosphere....

    Hi Murray,

Some of us like a beer (and perhaps even service with a smile, too) but don't want to have to pay through the nose for it! Basically they're having a laugh. Carrying a thermos around crowded rooms at a hi-fi show is not my idea of fun either, and I'd only end up leaving it somewhere. The facilities should be more realistically priced.

Hifi Addict -- Good idea and noted.

A nice old pub in Heathrow? That's a novel concept.

I've decided to go with the whole package: Camelbak, Anorak, special home-made carrier bag made out of re-cycled trouser fabric, Thermos (with chicken noodle cup-a-soup inside), pudding bowl haircut as fashioned by my mother, and most importantly, I've perfected that 'vacant' looking expression true geeks always seem to have.

Thus attired, I'll be ready to 'latch' on to some poor unsuspecting sod and follow them around the show like a puppy dog until they 'lose' me in a corridor. Later, I'll console myself at home, in my Christmas jumper, reading piles of leaflets on equipment that I've got no intention of buying.

Spearmint Rhinos is five minutes away.

I might be able to get a concession for a bake off with a difference.

Not my cup of tea i am afraid.

I got dragged to a "gentlemans club" once by some horny traders looking for pneumatic take aways. I was just a bit bored by all the silly gyrating of genitals in my face and the dancer was quite put out and told me so!

Actually, I wouldn't imagine many "audiophiles" would feel overly comfortable in such surroundings.

    Nor anyone who's:

    Married
    Over 30 (with a life)
    Female
Someone who's seen a pair of tits before
Wanting to get laid and not prick teased
    Not into throwing good money

Sad to say if that were true, there wouldn't be much money in them and there is. Fortunes. Much of the clientele is married, over 30, prosperous and confident, and I know of a number of married women who like to go along as well. Next time you drive past one - look at the money in the car park...

Of course, there'll always money in sex and food. They're the two things we all need at some point.

First and last time I went was on my 21st. It didn't really cost me anything but was ridiculously expensive at £10 for 3 minute song and more than that if you wanted 'extras'. God only knows how much it is now. Proper seedy if you ask me but there's obviously a need 'em.
