Two stand out moments for me.

The Funk room - amazing performance from an old 80s Technics amp (I used to own one :) ) into even older Spendor BC1s fronted by an old and sad looking LP12. It just played music and was sooooo easy to listen too after the fireworks on offer in most of the other rooms. The Vector Lp12 was even better but given that you can buy the standard stuff Arthur was playing for about £700 it has to be amazing vfm.

The other highlight was the big McIntosh system.
    O-M-G - heaven - on looks alone :)
Amazing scale and dynamics on orchestral and live rock - sounded like a good PA stack on the latter which is how it should be. It would have been interesting to see how those enormous speakers could cope with something simple like a single close recorded vocal, but bloody impressive even so.

I thought the funk was better :p

    Didnt see you around Rob.

Agree about the mac room though. Most of it due to the speakers I suspect. Cross it with the mbl room would be something special.

Yeah sorry we missed you Nick, you must have had the complete oposite action plan to us!

I found the best room was the Auracoustic room with the big red speakers that have similar drivers to the PMC MB2's. They also have a lot of acoustic deadening panels. It helped the midrange and bass a lot but was a bit too dead in the treble.

Nick, they were using the same bass and mid drivers you have but with a ScanSpeak revelator tweeter. You might like to give that a go in your system as it obviously works well.

I thought some of the Naim rooms sounded pretty good too  But they were all too much money for the sound on offer.

Overkill sounded good. A bit boomy in the mid but apart from that they did a good job.

The Metropolis room with the Ascendo speakers was a nice refreshing listen, free from boom and any other artefacts. Just a good serious hi-fi. At least on the tracks they played...

Sadly I missed the Coherent room, in fact we missed a whole corridor. Bloody confusing floor layout!

Yes I did see it. Same bass unit, but I think its the atc mid. It didnt really float my boat at the show I have to say. Not that this means anything given the generally dire sound all over.

No it used the same mid as the PMC's. Its a volt unit. I believe it is PMC who requested they build the mid unit.

    Can I remind you guys:
    *** IMPORTANT: Resolution S.U.H.T.L Loudspeakers ***

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Due to repeated threats of legal action against Zerogain and other websites by Mr Nick LeFeuvre of Resolution Loudspeakers (aka "World's Best Loudspeakers", SUHTL), it is my sad duty to inform all users of Zerogain that discussion of these speakers is now impossible on this forum. All discussions of these speakers have resulted in such threats and in the interests of continuity of this forum no further discussions can be allowed to exist.

This strikes against the open nature of discussion here presenting all viewpoints but I consider it the lesser of evils when the future of the forum could be placed in jeopardy otherwise.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation

I like my house, and the other mods and I don't want to have to defend ourselves in court for right or wrong. This place is only for fun. Sorry for deleting or altering any posts.
    Thanks

One really interesting thing is the DIFFERENCE in what people liked from the show...

For example - Overkill audio - crap speakers I thought. Avalon Eidolons? sounded crap too!. Living Voice Avatars? sounded boomy in that little room..

... and yet for many those were people's favourite rooms!!

I'm not right, they're not wrong - it's not the kit not being at its best in a show (none of it is, after all) - it's plain old fashioned difference of opinion... and nothing to be ashamed of there.

    My favourite rooms (sonically) ...were..

quad - the new ones, and the 57's in the emporium room.
Dali - I really rate Dali, one day I may give up on big speakers and get Dali's..
the room with the speakers with ceramic woofers and diamond tweeters (dont know name :( )
the horn room velvet or whatever

On a VFM trip, it's got to be some Quad 57's, a small Velodyne, Lector amps/phono/garrard from the Emporium. A complete system for a few grand that kicked the but of the big boys.

http://www.isophon.de/pages/ those guys? I liked the smaller ones on that main page but not the ones with Accuton woofers and diamond tweeter - VERY boomy.

Or you might mean the Marten designs ones. http://www.marten.se/ - they sounded very good last year but I didn't go in this year.

Sorry Lordsummit, I didn't realise even indirect mention was not allowed.

    thanks Tenson!

It wasn't the Isophon, it looked a bit like the Marten Miles III http://www.marten.se/base.html ...e.g. 2 ceramic 6" with a diamond tweeter, but I'm not sure it was as straight edged as that.

    hmm
    price was about 8-9k

Neil/Robbo - if you're reading do you remember them?

it could have been the Isophon.

I thought it only had 2 woofers, but looked a bit like this one:

    http://www.isophon.de/pages/isophon.pages.php?id=en_801

    I really liked it.

With a complete change of all my amplification I could really like them.

A bit of a quantum leap of equipment and budgets however.
