    Hello everyone,

I was sorry to hear of Groovehandle's demise, but it's good to see things are up and running here!

Anyway, due to a change of career (ahem), all my Cyrus kit is gone. To be honest, I'm not too bothered as I could never quite get the sound I wanted from that system. I ended up about £350 down after selling up which isn't too bad I guess. Time to start again, but in the meantime I have dug out my first system (no sniggers please ;) ):

    Cambridge Audio A500 amp
    Cambridge Audio P500 power amp
    Marantz CD6000 OSE LE

The problem is that the CD player does not play CDs correctly. The sound is *incredibly* quiet no matter how loud I turn the volume on the amp. I have checked all the cables, the Marantz's volume is at full and the tuner plays normally, so I am assuming the CD player is at fault.

In the course of my 'scientific' research, I found that thumping the CD player on its right hand side meant that CDs were played at the correct volume for a couple of seconds. So, does anyone have an idea where the problem lies specifically? Will it be an easy repair or is it goosed? (The unit is out of warranty).

    Cheers,

    D.

just to point out that marantzs do have 2 year warranties, so if its say 18 months old, as Corporal Jones said, 'Don't panic'!! :elephant:

if on the other hand it is over 2 years old, it sounds like a dodgy connection leading out from the dac to the phono sockets, or trickier still, a dry joint on the PCB

try and give Marantz a call anyway- when my car h/u had gone slightly out of warranty, and my Senn 580 cans had also gone slightly out, both companies were happy to repair/replace etc as long as i sent it back to them....
01753 680868 is the contact no. for Marantz

    Where are you ?

It sounds if its a loose connection or similar.

If your close I could give it the once over.

Rory, thanks for providing the Marantz number. I'm within the 2 year warranty period, so I just have to take the unit back to my dealer and they'll send it off for repair.

Zanash, thanks for the kind offer. I'm in Edinburgh which may be a bit out of your way.

no probs Zanzig, altho tbh if its after the retailers 1 year warranty, you're normally expected to send it direct to the manufacturer...thats how my shop operates anyway

    best of luck
