Have moved from the UK down to the Eastern Algarve, and brought my Naim-based system with me :)

Having lurked here for a while thought I'd stick my head above the parapet and say "bom dia / boa tarde" to the Portugal-based forumites.

I'd be interested to know from you "locals" about the state of the hi-fi community and market around these parts. Tried to do that on a different forum but got bounced off

    Anyway - hello from me.

    hi,

you may want to try also ''the audioclub of athens''.

They have some portuguese members, I'm pretty sure.

    Cheers

An Iberian punk band or just an unsavoury bunch you bumped into on holiday Chris?

Well, I am Portuguese, but I know next to nothing about HIFI around here... The people I know that like music usually find a rather personal solution and then lose interest in hifi per se.

There are some good shops in Lisbon, others in Porto (Oporto), I don't really know about Algarve but surely there must be something good there.

From what I know, the English influence here is important, although there are some traditions. For instance, I do not know of any Naim mania here. There is a shop, of course, and they are duly arrogant ;) but I don't know if they sell much.

There are a couple of magazines, so I guess there must be many enthusiasts.

Michaelab probably knows more than me.

I hope you like it here :)

Do you have any more details about the location. My parents are heading out to their holiday home in Ourique at the weekend and they need to get hold of some Nac A5 speaker cable.

I don't know if it is in the same place, but a couple of years ago it was at the Mall at Saldanha (center of Lisbon, but you may park there).

The Naim dealer was a shop in the Chiado district of Lisboa which was called, appropriately, "Atitude". It looks like they have gone out of business. I'm completely out of the Portuguese hifi scene these days so I don't know any more than Rodrigo I'm afraid!
