    hi i just got my amp wired it all up put in the valves as per the instructions.

    Turned it on one of the inner valves flashed and buzzed then the whole thing died

    The valve was a 5u4g inner valve on a kat6550 {inner right hand}

    for starters .....replaced the dead valve with a known working one ..and see if the amp still works ...[if the second valve dies in the same way you may have serious issues] from your post it sounds like you have just got the amp ....if its new or s/h contact the supplier ! if your just setting it up after having used it else where then it could just be coincidence ...or the move was the last sraw for a valve on its last legs ...

    I alway recomend that you have at least on set of spare valves ...this allows you to elliminate faults elsewhere ..if the replacment valves work fine ...

    not easy if its new kit to you ...but still worth thinking about

    not familar with kat6550...but the 5u4g is a rectifier ...so may have just died of old age/usage .....

    Any external or internal fuses? Do you have any skills in buzzing out components, resistors etc. and do you have a Digital Voltmeter? May be worth a look to see if any components are charred or obviously dead. DONT forget to unplug it and steer clear of capacitors.

    On second thoughts, if you are not aware of capacitors, stay out of the kit.

    After some reading i found that I had a rectifier flash over blowing the 1.2 amp fuse. So on further investigation i fitted a 1.6amp surge protection fuse and a mains fiter. So far im up and running

    Thanks all for your help ! Learnt a new phrase today - A rectifier flash over :)

    Good to hear you got it sorted. Youve got to watch out for the rectifier flashover, it can be a bugger! Ill go off and google it now!

    been using my WAD6550 for 2 years now (i bought it used). Absolutely superb amps. For the money on the used market they are an absolute steal. Hope you enjoy it!
