After doing a few miles on my steel stead over the weekend I have quite a sore, ahem, rumpus, that is one f'ing uncomfortable saddle

So I need a new saddle something thats going to be abit more polite. Any recommendations? and please dont suggest a cushion with a hole in the middle for afterwards.

if its the first time out on your bike for a while it won't matter what saddle you have, there'll all be uncomfortable, just give it time :(

other ideas are saddles with titanium rails or in my experience a really narrow saddle, have a look at www.wiggle.co.uk i personally like, and find ok for a 5 hour ride, the Selle Italia SLR its also dead light.

get yourself some padded cycle shorts (if you ph33r lycra then wear some baggies over the top) and a specialized body gemoetry / gel saddle. this is what i use and do not suffer from bikers bum at all... of course it's not the lightest thing in the world but miles better than the razor blades that masquerade as saddles these days.
    cheers

Yeah, what Phil said. The soreness will pass after the first week or so.

T-bone - Try a gel cover over your existing saddle. Other than that it's just getting used to it as others have said.

This makes a massive difference, more than you might think. Personal faves: Endura MT500 either the baggies or the lycra jobs. Great quality, v comfortable, a little bit pricey (not silly) but worth it IMO.

I have a Bell gel sadal I got from Argos, cheap as chips and does the job ok. But I do get the feeling the bikes don't seem to be designed with mens' comfort in mind, unless it was for torture. I've got a smaller frame, raised the handle bars, and lowered the seat, so I'm more upright than lent forward, seems to be less painful.

You could try something like a Selle Italia Oktavia genuine gel (£31.99) or for ultimate comfort, a Koobi PRS enduro with tunable suspension (£54.99)..
A cheaper option is a Specialized body geometry, at £20ish..
Or you could get a USE Shokpost suspension seat post, from £49.99..
    All available from www.leisurelakesbikes.com
