Having recently changed my amp I am now looking for a replacement MM Cartridge. My old amp had a MC input and I used an Orthofon MC10 Super. My deck is a Thorens fitted with SME3009 series 2 improved arm.I want to spend under £100 and get something that works well with the SME.The MM input of my new amp has a rated sensitivity of 3.5mV.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The old favourite Denon DL110 is excellent and should be fine in the SME. This is a high output MC designed to work into a MM input. It is better than the MC10 my some margin IMO.

If you want a MM the Audio Technica AT440MLa is superb, if a little brightly lit for some.

    I'd go for the Denon.

    Help Given

    Thanks Rob, most helpful.
Having been playing around with Hi-Fi since 1951 (yes it did exist then) I got to a stage about 20 years ago when I thought that's it,no more experimenting, just listen to the music.Consequently,
now that I'm looking for something new I find that I really don't have much of a clue about the merits of what's available.
    So thanks again. Pete.

    Pete, you are very welcome.

I understand your comment entirely - there is very little that is genuinely new in hi-fi and mostly people just reinvent and rehash the old ideas. Nothing wrong with that if they work.

    Regards,

you may find the dl 160 superior in that arm and possibly only that arm as it is a tiny bit more suited to the low mass.

    Further to the above.
I did in fact give the wrong description of my SME 3009 s2 improved.I should have added 'detachable headshell'.
Anyhow, the answers I received pointed me in a direction and a bit more digging on the internet produced a very usuable chart that required no maths and all I had to do was enter the arm mass the cartridge weight and the compliance and bingo it showed that a Denon DL160 would do nicely.I got a superb price on the cartridge(£130 including postage) and following the instructions in the SME manual I set it up today.I am really happy with the result and just wanted to say thanks to Rob and Darrylfunk for their input.
    Pete.

Good news Pete - both the 110 and 160 cannot be touched for performance v price.
You did well for £130 as that is usually the price quoted for the 110 these days.
