there is perhpats a shade (sorry....) of trueth in the statement, joking apart.....

...the canon pic does seem darker......

only the first i have taken, so early days..

    initial impressions

    1) far quicker start up

    2) menues seem more intuative.....the nikon is horrendous.

    3) canon has far better view finders

    4) canon has a bloody silly lens cap that keeps dropping off.

    5) nikon feels nicer in your hand.......why i liked in the firts place.

Is one set to a higher default saturation/contrast? The pics look of a similar quality to me. Maybe the difference is just down to having more sky in the first pic therefore the camera is just adjusting to the extra brightness. Maybe.

The first picture looks exposed better to me and appears sharper
Its difficult to be sure - but Look at the tax disc.

I think the other contributer r is correct - The extra sky in the in picture One is (correctly) affecting the exposure.

"but Look at the tax disc."

    ...yes , true enough.

the canons (seem to have) done it better, here any way.

I think this was always the conclusion, the nikons defintion was ok, not brill. I always liked the colours though.

The picture quality differences between Canon and Nikon for normal shots is very very small. Dont let this play a large part in decisions.C& N are the 2 top makers It should be down to features and personal ergonomics.

I think the canon is the more modern camea.....it does stuff just loads quicker.......a def + mark

...also the view finders are much better, again poss due to being a year or so later.

so, at the emoment I don't feel much urge to grab the nikon!

(but) that lens cap going to drive me round th twist yet

    wht IS the canon eqivalent?

a d80 is almost certainly out of my league.....

I'm following the prices of d70/d50s with interest though.

eg keep the canon for macro/indoor work (which my nikon (5700)is complete **** at) .........dslr for landsape?

    a d50 body has just gone for 150 on e bay....whats a lense worth?

I was just interested in doing this before the nikon goes away.

My Dads main complaint about the canoon was that it wasn't quite giving the resolution in macro shots that he thought it ought to.

This hardly (atall) scientific (and done in quickly)...but I was just curious to see what happened.

It doesn't help that i ws breezy (so forcusing is all over the place)and also the nikon screen wasn't doing much.

The canon was from about a foot away and the nikon about 6-8"

If i'm taking up to much space Mark( Mods).......I'll get rid!
