I have recently upgraded my planar 3 with an ortofon 10x5 - sounds great but as a result am finding that wow (or is it flutter? i.e. speed instability) is driving me mad. Is this normal and what can i do about it?

I guess the easiest possibility is a motor upgrade (£85) followed by an external power supply. I'm sure others have looked into this and wondered what the general concensus is.

The more I spend, the more I like, however, the more critical I get the more I can see myself spending - I suppose this is normal too!!??

Any hardheaded advice much appreciated. :(

Presumably you've already tried replacing the belt?

It has a new belt and new bearing (stolen from a new p2). The old bearing was full of gunk and actually had an indentation in the spindle from the ball bearing in the bottom.

perhaps some more bearing grease, it may have dried out a little during the swap

I ended up swapping the whole bearing assembly so it shouldn't have dried out.

slippy belt pulley, take motor out, drip a drop of superglue onto the very end of the spindle leave it for five seconds to capiliary into the puley, then invert until dry.

Planars used to carry a lifetime warranty so if possible take it to a Rega dealer for a once over.
