I have recently joined Itunes started dling albums. I would like to serve them from my pc but dont want masses of noise etc. So would it be a good idea to serve via the PC and a good sound card or buy an Ipod and say NAD ipod dock serving music that way ?

    Cheers all for the help.

Take a look at this thread Chris:-

I'd personally look at a NAS drive for the music files. You can hide it away in the loft, cellar etc. You can then use (for example) Squeezebox, Apple TV etc. for streaming the music to a DAC or directly into an amp. In one of my systems I use the digital output of the sound card into a DAC. There are quite a few options.
