Usually there is a ticket on the front cover of the October issue of Hi Fi News that allows free entry to the Hi Fi Show. Not this year it seems. I wouldn't be surprised if visitor numbers are lower this year because of this. Considering how poor the Hi Fi Show was last year (for me at least), it is unlikely I'll be going this year. I wonder if there will be a Hi Fi News show next year if so few people attend?

    Anybody have thoughts on this?

I'm not quite shure. HFN show still has very strony selling points, that the other show hasn't - a strong brand and more trade/press visitors than any other show in Europe (maybe with the exception of Hi-End Show in Munich).

Sound and Vision show would not exist without HFN Show. It is like a parasite. Remember how few visitors/manufacturers/int'l press/int'l distributors came in april ? VERY few.

Those ppl still come to visit HFN show. Ofc, they also visit the Sound & Vision show when they are there. But it was NOT the other way round.

I also talked to the ppl that exhibited at Park Inn. Most of them told me that the biggest selling point for them was lower price (40% off) AND the priximity of HFN show.

HFN can still reclaim what deirs. But they have to act fast and wisely. I'm not the one to tell them what to do.

If they fail to do so, then I will not feel sorry for them, 'cos that will mean, that they do not know how to run a business.

i always found kk to be a bit of a luddite - never open to new ideas (in his column at least) and seemingly going out of his way to alienate anyone not in his immediate peer group (i.e. he thought young people idiots due to them chosing to listen to an ipod rather than a decrepid old pro walkman or some such tat).
what's needed is a clarkson of hi-fi (i refer to the fast car columnist clarkson not the current charicature - enjoyable though his antic are) who can inject a bit of fun and irreverence and demystify the whole industry. hmmmmm

Isnt it about time things moved on? we moan and groan about hifi being run by a cartel of old blokes, so why do we want the mags to have the same old journos writing the same old crap year after year? Why not get some younger guys in to try and liven the industry up a bit!!
