Hi,all, just a few lines ,got a 13A Hi-Fi Tuning fuse to put in an amplifier and to be honest was not expecting much, but to my suprise all areas of performance are improved, but what improved the most is even more musicality and a calming down of the sound, all in all a very worthwhile tweak.

Here's a good opportunity for someone to explain to me the mechanism by which a fuse improves "musicality".

    Anyone?

    complete guess here,
but i imagine (or hope) that the fuse has a more conductive / fatter / whatever / better contact area to carry the signal , all the big furutech / isotek plugs in the world are great but i suppose if the fuse is flimsy standard gauge you don't hear the benefit as much? more consistent better power delivery must help

    Hi
From my experience, believe fuse is silver, therefore better conductivity. If you incease guage of fuse element , it would not blow at the same overload and could damage your equipment.
Just a bit of info from a qualified electrician.

And at only £15 (or something like), they sound like a bargain upgrade!

Although silver is better than copper in terms of conductivity, I am willing to bet a 15 quid fuse is not made entirely of silver, but infact copper coated in silver.

In other words you got sucked in like a sucky thing, and now you got sucked in you believe you heard a difference to make yourself feel better that you spent 15 quid on a god damn fuse.

    HahahahhHAHhahahAHhah.

15 quid for a fuse, those guys must be laughing into their expensive champagne, seriously.

Yeah but if they are rated at 13A as his clearly are then they can't have increased the guage. I can't imagine what they have done to make it a "super dooper hi-fi fuse"?

A bit like paying £5 for Nurofen when you can buy Tesco branded Ibuprofen for £0.50 - they've got to pay for all that advertising somehow (ok more esotreic verions of Nurofen have differnet forms of Ibuprofen but that is the main active ingredient)

Yes they are meant to sound like that. Every time someone says "ah it's only £15", Delboy makes £12.

So silver conducts better than copper (ever so slightly). What effect will an inch of silver have on electricity that has come down miles and miles of copper? Other than to make Del Boy £12 of course ;)

Do any of these fancy fuses meet standard approvals? Testing?

    Conductivity:

Conductivity is the electrical inverse of resistivity. Change the resistivity of a fuse and you change the way it behaves.

    or

Just replace the fuse with a cut down 6†nail and be done with it.

Give the pins on your plug and the end of the fuse a clean with Brasso - free (if you have the Brasso - other metal polishes may be used :))

    Hi Fi Tuning Fuses

Hi,l have in the past have cleaned my fuses plug pins etc in the past, and the Hi-Fi Tuning Fuse gave a much bigger improvement than cleaning the Fuses for £20 a pop there is no labour involved, agreed l do not understand how they work but in my system, the fuse really did the trick, which compelled me to start the thread in the first place.

I have to work for 3 hours to earn £20. It doesn't take that long to polish a plug.

    SM,
I've been under the impression that you were Mr Money bags on this forum:)-what with trips to Japan etc-mind you, I've personally noticed the older I'm getting the punters are less keen to cough up the cash, but only £20 for 3 hrs? Have you tried the Yves saint Lauren concealer or standing under a different lamp?
    Regards

    HO hum,
Sorry to off at a tangent.
Shows how the uk economy has been depressed by past goverments. Cost of items has gone up wages have not increased with inflation. are we all being taken for mugs in this country. Nothing more certain than death and taxes.
Why not make a stand for the hifi community.
    Keep on rocking
