From those above I had a slight preference for the WMA 192 file.
Seemed to capture the ambiance of the venue slightly better and the strings were less synthetic than on the 128 streams.
All good though, and I find 128 far better today than in the early days.

    Hi DrMartin,

I'm using a Squeezebox Classic with a DACmagic and it made me forget (and finally sell) my Naim CD5i player.
It sounds great and has great convenience. I won't go back to a CD-player.

I have my PC running Squeezeserver in a spare bedroom and my SB in the livingroom.
It gets his signal from a wireless router, that is connected to my wired modem, tucked away in the livingroom.

It has never skipped a beat so far, and I think it's great to be able to browse through your entire music collection, with the touch of a button. (on the SB remote in my case)

    regards,
    Alco

Martin, be aware that WiFi has its limits. In most domestic circumstances it is absolutely fine, but if you have a large house or an old one of very solid construction, the WiFi may have insufficient range. If you have such a house you may need to hard wire the Squeezebox. It's not difficult.

My bungalow in Cyprus has 16" thick stone walls - that is a challenge!

Thank you both for the advice.

I very nearly bought a wireless router & squeezebox yesterday but couldn't work out which squeezebox version I needed / wanted.

Since I'm not in a hurry I think I'll wait for the 'touch' version.

As for the wifi signal, my house is only small and the signal will only really have to get through a suspended wooden floor so it should be ok. I would imagine the router has a large part to play in the reliability of all this so I'll be sure to invest in something tried and tested.

    Thanks again

    Martin

You tried the 192 D-Dur Stream?

That a WMA stream and Firefox should call Windows Media Player for that. It may work more smoothly if you use Internet Explorer.

If you go to the BBC site

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio

will they play from Firefox? Or from Internet Explorer?

Classic FM will only work from Internet Explorer

    http://www.classicfm.co.uk/

The Classic FM and Radio 3 streams are very good quality.

If you were to install Firefox's sister

    http://www.getsongbird.com/

you could access some nice stations with ease, provided your hardware is correctly set up.

You could play the 256 OGG D-Dur stream in Songbird

    Cut and paste

    http://www.rozhlas.cz/audio/download/ddur_maxogg.m3u

into Songbird | File | Open a location

    It is well worth experimenting.

Songbird will not play the highest bitrate OGG-FLAC
