I've just bought a Dussun V6i amp and, being fairly hefty need an equally hefty piece of furniture to house it. SWMBO would like the equipment to be concealed but that's not totally necessary however, it mustn't look like a traditional hi-fi rack. I've seen the Arca Nuevo, Bloc and Hold the Music stuff however, they see a little expensive. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

the obvious place to look is ikea....

most of their furniture can be adapted to provide a half decent sound...

don't forget that big amps [and the v6 is a big amp !]need ventilation or they quickly overheat

I have my Naim system in a simple Ikea Corras.

Dirt cheap, hides the cable spaghetti out of sight, sounds good (put 3 spikes underneath the unit)
    and has hight-adjustable shelve(s).

For the price of 2 CD's you can have a decent HiFi support, that's available in different colours.

    regards,

Another plug for Matt at Custom Carpentry & Woodwork. Did a really nice job on the frame and I got the glass locally.

Underneath the CD-player, an old Sound-Factory TT Isolation platform. (which is a hollow metal frame, with small spikes on top, and a light board resting on top)

Underneath my Flatcap2 power-supply: an MDF board (used to be a Mission Isoplat once), 3 small cones and a left over granite plate.

I've gone for one of these in the end:

    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40105340

Good value and looks nice too.

I want to try and cut out some of the outside vibrations however as the cd player has skipped once or twice since being re-housed when people have walked past.

At the moment the cd player is on the middle shelf. It sits on 3 oak cones on top of a piece of granite on top of 3 oehlbach mini spikes.

I wonder whether this might be too rigid and wonder whether it is worthwhile placing under the granite instead of the metal spikes. Anyone got any suggestions? I don't really want to replace the granite with a specific isolation platform as the majority seem to be made from something similar just with sorbothane feet under.

Any good, cost effective recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    I thought so too.

Gone with sorbothane in the end anyway. Bought some computer hard drive mounts to see how they stack up but also dabbled with a couple of other sorbothane solutions. It's inexpensive so if it doesn't work...

I use them under the CD player and turntable, Not because of footfall problems, its a concrete floor, but the wall behind the rack has the back door to the house opening against it. Any violent opening of the door can cause the door to crash against the wall, which inturn can cause anything on the rack to vibrate a touch.
Just in case you are wondering what may cause the door to open in such a way, I have a pair of Boxer Dogs, which any one that has met these creatures will tell you regard a closed door as a challenge.
