I was mulling an idea over and thought it may have value. How about a stick where we can place recommendations of outstanding hifi recordings on LP and CD. Genre not important but useful to give the reader an idea of music type. always layed out something like

    Header example
    Fromat : (cd.LP)
Genre : (rock, classical jazz etc.)
    Artist : (Rush)
    Album Title : (2112)
    Quality : ( say 1 to 5)

Do we need to decide on a reference recording. I have a naim compilation that I judge my quality against.

I dont want to replicate what you listening to now more make up an archive. ANother idea is maybe make up a website if anyone on here would be willing to do. Make it a log in type like Zerogain with links from here on a sticky.

Just an idea let me know if its rubbish or not

Your main problem will be derision by people who consider the albums sound quality of little importance in comparison to the musical content.

One problem I've noticed in listening to other people's 'reference recordings' (for want of a better term) is that I often find they are a tailor-made fix for holes in their system...e.g. they may have too much bass (to compensate for a lack they may have), or avoid certain room nodes etc.

The first point is key though I feel.

Start a thread in the Music forum and let's see what the take up is. There is already a thread called Reviews and recommendations. Is this the sort of thing you had in mind?

I'm interested in this proposal. 2 or 3 albums I have bought stand out (vinyl).Even if I would not have thought of the artist in the first place I find a top quality recording improves my listening pleasure.
