    Moorgate Acoustics

I've always been treated well at Moorgate Acoustics, both when purchasing and when visiting Fantasy Island...

i like Moorgate, Adrian's a nice guy and has good taste in music. i'd rather talk music than gear with a sales rep any day.

    My 2 pence worth:

There are two HiFi shops in York, not counting Curry's of course, they know a thing or two about good sound.

    1. The Sound Organisation. They sell Linn, Naim, Rega, B&W, Denon and lots of very expensive TVs. Very very friendly guys and have always been helpful to me. I bought a pair of Rega Juras from them on my first visit after a couple of hours with an LP12 and my amp in their dem room. This was a lot of money when I was working full time as a fried chicken specialist. Since then I've had a number of leads made up, bought speaker cable and a rack from them etc.

    2. Vickers HiFi. Much more interesting kit imho. Despite the fact they appear to have had the same Gyrodeck in the window for the last 100 years. However, my first visit set the tone. I don't remember too much about it now but he really didn't want to let me demo any speakers in the dem room, (then or at any other time in the future), and was a bit condescending to say the least. This fortuitously led to me wandering down the road to hear the Juras. I've been in a couple of times since and the reception was much the same. Funny that as now I actually have a lot more money to spend.

Oh, and he sold my mum that f"£$ing Pickering record clamp when she asked for the Michell. Every time I forget I've clamped a record it knocks the cartridge across the record like a drunken ice skater.
