too late, i've already sent off the cheque. also i'm not a huge fan of horns unless they are absolutely huge and then there is something about the way they load the room that is unsettling. i'm quite looking forward to the 'tuneability' aspect of the diy approach too. as the resale value will be negligable anyway i can faff to my hearts content gradually upgrading the crossover components, drivers and tuning them by adding or removing wadding. also if i get bored with their looks i can just respray them. i wouldn't dare do any of that with an off the shelf speaker for fear of not being able to sell them on.
    cheers

Must be a good twenty years old!

BTW, It's a passive radiator on the rear I believe. Suspect it's a typical Klipsch - coloured as fcuk but huge fun :D

Sorry to be thick, but what does that mean . Are we talking a driver that just gets moved in and out by internal pressure variatons generated by the front driver rather than actually being driven by the speakers?

It's like bass reflex, except there's no port, the internal pressure variations will get the radiator going. I can't remember how coloured they were, but they did get you involved with the music. They would be about 20 years old, I bought mine in 1985.

i've heard few years ago similar Klipsch speakers with 12" front woofer and 15" rear passive radiator.

    2 things:
    1. they had the best bass i've heard till today
    2. they are designed to be placed in corners - what an audiophile paradise :D

otherwise, been connected to Sony electronics and 200 watt Carver power amp the sound was hugely over bright and painfull.

I recently bought and sold some Klipsch Heresy 2s and on the end of my Lavardin I thought they were truly great lacked low bass but so dynamic it more than made up for it, unfortunately the missus said No! Bit coloured but not so bad..

These ones look in shocking condition though, shame really I might have had a punt otherwise.

My Dittons have a 12" passive radiator..
Between that and the 12" bass unit they produce oodles of most satisying bottom, without the disco thump of some speakers pretending to do bass!

I'm using a pair of the Heresy 2's and am pretty happy with them. As Joolsburger says, they don't go particularly deep, but what they do deliver is fast and tight with great definition.

Don't think the colouration from the horns is that bad. First and foremost, they deliver the music in a thoroughly enjoyable way. Their main problem is the heavy cloth used for the grills - the sound is really veilled with them in place.
