    Most of the motion of electrons in a system is in wire, and the biggest threat to motion is across connections. A cheap system that has good control over electron motion will sound better than a very expensive one that has poor control over that motion. That cheap system can sound extremely life-like, provided enormous dynamic range is not expected.

    HiFi, like anything else, is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. There's no 'absolute' value that can be imposed on hifi, or anything else for that matter.

    But what is hi-fi? People pay a lot for what a dealer of very expensive gear once told me was 'incredible sound'. I had to agree with him, unfortunately.
