Out of interest, where would one buy a soundlevelometer?

http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers/rssplmeter.htm Which is about the same price as I paid for one 10 years ago and I'm still on the original RadioShack battery. So they're cheap to run.

I've never measured the sound levels, but I listen at very low levels too. The first thing I do at any dealer demonstration is to ask the dealer to lower the volume.

*Very* occasionally I'll kick out the jams and move the volume control to 11 o'clok, but most of the time it hovers between 9 and 10.

I like to crank it up a bit as well Chris, but don't have an SPL, so can't answer your question but that comment about micro systems really wounded me:(.

I normally listen to my music (whislt relaxing) at about 7-8 o'clock on the volume dial...but if I'm up and about in the house then I sometime put it upto about 11'oclock, but I've never played it above 12 - it's too loud!!

Don't know about dB, but most of the time the amp is at 3 out of 30.

I usually know when I am listening at socially unacceptable levels when SWMO yells out "For goodness Sake will you turn down the volume! Your headphones are too loud!!!!!"

tee hee... and yes, this was music not test tones - though admittedly at zero range.
