How much for a NAC 52 head unit?

I'm thinking about changing my preamp, and wondering about a ballpark figure for my NAC 52 head unit. I'm not sure how old it is, but I've had it for just over 2 years, at the time I bought it it had just been recapped and generally fully-spruced-up by Naim.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    Tuppence Ha'penny? :)

That's all it would be worth to me as I don't have a record deck

Define mid-fi. Surely it depends on ones budget and priorities and so, as a general term, is meaningless

In any case, I don't see how the addition of a record deck would raise the fidelity of a system. In fact, I fail to see how a sound reproduction device that produces such high levels of extraneous noises that are not present in the recording can have any place in a high fidelity sound reproduction system :p

That rules out SACD then :)

Please let's not do the bloody vinyl V CD thing again dudes - it's getting boring. Vinyl is better musically in reasonable price territory, and CD *can* be more "accurate" (read boring). End of story.

Why not Epay it - you'll get back quadruple what you paid for it - anything with Naim on goes crazy large on there!

Somehow I think you're more likely to get results if you lead by example (i.e. refrain from voicing your opinion on the matter)...

And somehow I think the boys were just poking fun at each other, not firing up the flame-throwers. ;)

Unfortunately not. It's sold, but not to me.

I've put feelers out elsewhere, and I reckon I could get one for under £2k s/h. If it comes without a phono stage, I'll get a s/h prefix and use the 52's supercap to power that, then sell on the 52 head unit on its own.

Assuming I prefer the SCA-2 to the 52, that is!

I do feel that I might well be banging my head on a glass ceiling though.

    Bub

Have you discussed with JW how the Ninja would react to a non Naim amp. I would bet that there is a good chance he half designed it around a NAC 52.

A quick phone call may be prudent.

    Regards

    Mick

bit overkill to use the supercap for the prefix....

If I was you I would get an ATC pre, with fono stage, see which you preferred first, then ditch the other, if it happened to be the ATC, get rid of the 52 and supercap together?

Reckon on about 3k-3k5, I think some of the figures are slighty optimistic...
