Both my car and my dads are absolutely filthy at the moment, black is a mofo of a colour to keep clean at the best of times, but we haven't been trying to hard of late. Tis a bit dark for pictures now though (plus a phone cam takes shockingly poor images anyway :( and I doubt images of dirt interest you much :p).

Those Octavia vRS's are very nice cars, I'm tempted to suggest one to my dad - he's recently said that when my and my sister go of to uni he wants a Golf GTi Turbo, now if you ask me thats one overpriced car for a decent spec new shape one (I'd be after at least a WRX at that price)....an Octavia vRS on the other hand, get the engine chipped to 225bhp or so :JPS: - that'd be nice!

    Nice paintwork there guys!

Freshly cleaned and polished very dark colours look the biz. The only trouble is keeping the car clean, as dark colours show up every single speck of dirt.

I use Autoglym extra gloss polish on mine, but will problaby try out some Zymol as it has been recommended to me.

you are quite correct Will:) they are a better car all around than the Golf, possibly because Skoda have sneakily, allegedly made them over 190bhp out of the box...................many have been getting this on rolling roads since Autocar tested a standard one at 6.7secs to 60,everyone rushed to the rrs to find out how! But uts the handling that is dramatically better than the Golf, they are devoid of any emotion, not dissimilar to any Audi outside of a the RS2 and er,the new Rss as well:) Miltek make a very nice exhaust as well, goes nicely with a Jabba map:)

Mine is just a standard 2.0 gls saab, not the vr4, which there is no way on earth I could afford to insure, fuel and run (service is £300+ every 4500 miles on the VR4). Want a subaru legacy (new shape) for my next...

    Isaac,sorry,I meant the VR4

I very nearly got a Leggy twin turbo,(STi5 on steroids)expensive to insure being an import, but 12k gets a 99 so much better value than an RS4 or V8 Beamer, very quick as well, wipe the floor with a standard Scoob.I just couldn't live with the running costs.I also looked at the RSKB4,they look great in black and go like stink. But I was kidding myself on running costs,i was trying to reduce them after all but couldnt help myself looking .Do you mean the new shape that came out in Japan I think in 2002 ish?

    Robbo

Zymol is superb,i had some but went with Swissol because i got some on the cheap, not much in it though, they are both pure Carnauba

This thread has got to have the highest anorak rating of any so far ....so I'll join in :D

Currently using Autoglym extra gloss (and various other Autoglym products) but am going to give Zymol a try also. It's been recommended a lot on the BMW forums and in "BMW Car" magazine. Expensive stuff but looks like it will be the dogs dangly bits :)

Are we "anorakians" then, I also use autoglym btw:D :D :D

Some of my mates use Mcguires,

but I dont like it, weird but the cloth gets warm as you use it which makes me think its causing a reaction with the paint somehow.

But it does shine well if anyone wants to try it, I'll stick wi me super resin polish n high gloss protection.:D :D :D

The legacy 2.0 has an EU combined of 37.6mpg, which is rather better than the 29 that my galant is rated at (and I drive gently and have averaged 31mpg over 18000 miles), so it's really not bad.

    A few points....

The engine in the Octavia vRS is not any more powerful than those in the Golf GTI Anniversary, Audi TT 180, Seat Leon Cupra 180 or any other 1.8 T 20v derivative of VAG cars. Its just that VAG understate the power of those cars. All of them may well kick out 190 bhp as you said, but its certainly not unique to the Skoda.

Just like my car (Fabia vRS) is quoted to have 130, but really has 145 bhp, same with the Seat Ibiza TDI 130 and Golf GT TDI.

Secondly, the 6.7 second roadtest was NOT a standard car. The owner of that car is a member at BRISKODA, and the car was chipped when it did that run.... and think about it, how else could it more or less match a Honda Civic Type R which is considerably less heavy and has more standard power.

Do some searches at the BRISKODA forums, that should bring you well up to speed on all things Octavia vRS. ;)

i can't remember the last time i cleaned my car. i do take it to a car wash place in deptford once every couple of months or so. I did so on saturday so it's nice and clean now. I've Corrola tsport which is practical, quick, economicaln and understated.

Not to point fingers at all:elephant: but isnt the 1.8 turbo as used by VAG widely regarded as one of the most uncharismatic engines available. They do it in 150bhp tune as well as 180 and 225 too dont they? Doesnt do it for me chaps. Made me laugh some of the mk4 gti's too, i mean they put a gti badge on one with an 2ltr 8v lump, my 1.8 focus easily outpaces that. what where they thinking, just diluting the brand IMHO. Havent sampled a mk 5 golf, but mk4's are nearly always just too heavy and sloppy. Save for the R32, i would guess, wouldnt mind one of those! a mate had a mk2 16v gti, last of the line in white with bbs rims. That was pretty damm nice, until he twatted it... fool

and back to the thread.........., i hardly ever wash my car at here, im driving down muddy/dusty back roads half of the time so as soon as you clean it its dirty yet again! helps to put a good layer of polish on a few times a year though
