I have two Musical Fidelity X-Ponents (X-Cans V2 and X-LPS) that are powered by 12v ac wallwart sockets. Both of these hum. Is there any replacement power supplies (Other than a second hand X-PSU for >£200:mad: )?
    Cheers

i seem to recal that all it needs is a 12v transformer, you can get a 50va (4 amps) unit designed for low voltage lighting relitvly cheap,i belive lilolee done something simaler

Thanks for the offer Joolsburger - out of interest what are you using as a power supply now.
Do you think it's just that the MF WalWarts are c**p and if I try a few from other manufacturers I'll find a few that don't hum.
What I'm really looking for is a supply unit that will take a standard power lead with a IEC socket. Does anyone know if any exist.
Hippy - do youy think a halogen unit could be adapted - my X-Ponents are 12v ac 500mA.

    Cheers all

yep, very simply id say.The transformers for halogen light fittings are normally rated at 4 amps,or more.one thing to check is that its a proper transformer, not an electronic transformer.something like this would do very nicley, you could even run both units of one transformner, theyd olny draw around 1A.

Or get one of trichord thingys made for your M/f Kit, There is a guy called Pink Floyd, who makes up cheapo good PSU's for the M/F gear, they arn't bad either :) I use a derivetive of the N/C in all my gear, makes a very useful difference. WM

    donut,
i think russ andrews does a 12v powerpak for use with a tivoli radio for about 40 ukp. i think it outputs dc though so it may not be what you need... it should be on his website.
    cheers

Thank Julian - I had already considered these as they looked ideal until I contacted RA and they pointed out that they were DC

WM - I have tried to contact "pink floyd" through his site but no response - also his site specifically states that he no longer builds these for people. That's a real shame as I think his own version of the PSU would have been ideal. Unfortunately my electronic DIY skills are next to none. I might however look into the halogen light option.

Hippy, regarding the halogen light transformer option - the only ones I can find are 50Va - I need 500Va - is this going to be a problem or won't it matter (as you can tell my electronics knowledge is near enough zero:rolleyes: )

    Cheers all

aye ? some ones getting confused.500va sort of equals 500 wats at 12 volts this is 41.something amps,500ma at 12volts is roughly 6 watts or 6vA

    Hippy - you're right - I've not got a clue:rolleyes:

    The MF site states:-

Power requirement 12V AC 500mA (via mains adaptor supplied).

    So I got things muddled.......
I'll have a go at this anyway.

I take it I can run both X-Ponents from the same Transformer and rely on the fuse in the Black Rhodium SuperMains6 Mains lead!

Cheers for your patient help :)

yep one 50va transformer will run 2 - 500ma devices easily.
The fuse in the mains plug will protect the cable and primary of the transformer ,the secondry winding (the 12v output side) is protected by a fuse built into the transformer.id be tempted to add 2 inline fuse holders, one for each x component on the 12v output of the transformer just in case.
