    I am speachless

These dacs cost £130 new last year!!! This one is going for £200!! They are not even that good! I would say they are worth £80 max.

I am pretty sure you could go down to richers, stick £150 on the counter and suddently they would have one in stock. They did sell these fof £59.95 in the back of the WHF catalogue about 1 year ago.

Your right, as they stand. But if they are half sa good as the dacmagic2/3's then once inside there's a very competent dac trying to get out. That is if youve the inclination to change a few components.

There are always some mugs on eBay :)

They are basically a dacmagic 3 with a built in isolation platform - the last of the Cambridge DAC line AFAIK.

I'm amazed it's gone from £15 to £200 on eBay in just 3 bids and with 5 days remaining, despite no picture and very sparse description

I would almost suspect some kind of "massaging" of the auction if that's possible.

    Michael.

Well - there's plenty more tools in the toolbox hey? Like the one who'll buy OMD's "Junk culture" at 4.99 'cos someone says "Rare" in the description...

One born every minute and all that...

I dont think they are quite the same as the old DACmagic, perhaps Timpy will be able to shed more light, but I believe they are quite different sonically, the S700 is known as the ISOmagic, and has a more refined, laid back sort of sound, still good by all accounts but quite different.

If its half as good as the DAC3, it should be good, but I agree that is a hefty price to pay, but I have to say, I havent yet found a source I would rather have than the DACmagic at anywhere near the price it cost me.

£200, ??? They must be raving mad.

I bought one of these for £70 from Richers a couple of years ago. Frankly it was worse than the 10 year old Marantz CD52 se that I put it on the back of, so it wasn't even worth the £70.

    Summary - it was rubbish.

IsoMagic uses SAA7350 (DAC7) DAC chip and PMD100 HDCD digital filter. It has 15 separate regulated power rails and both optical and coaxial connections. Its glass fibre circuit board is then internally floated on extruded silicon polymer mounts.

Pic, specs and more details at http://cambridgeaudio.com

Is it better or worse than the DacMagic is something I am trying to find out.

May be someone from the DACside can shed some light?

I remember reading a review in HIFI News about this DAC, I think they give it 4 stars saying it would improve some budget CDps but not all. The HDCD feature is good though.

I don't think its a duffer (though I have never heared it) but for £200 its just stupid.

It seems the auction ended early and the £200 was just a mistake.
