... a DAC64. Only for two nights, and won't be home until fairly late tonight, but should get some time tomorrow to listen to it. I shall report my findings in more detail...

Strangely, this is exhibiting the skipping problem also, yet is stone cold (perhaps it will go away when warmed up). I may actually be able to hang onto it for a couple of weeks. I'll consult the owner tomorrow over the lock issue...

Is it a Mk1? (If it has a power switch, it's a Mk2 I believe.) Apparently Chord fixed a bug in later versions because the Mk1 was having problems with some transports, it's possible this is the problem I was experiencing and the heat was a red herring (although I still think it was far too hot), the one I was using was pretty old.

No, it occurs with both of my transports.

It is a mk I. It doesn't have a lid... not sure if that's a factor.

Glad you're all coming around to the best digital replay there is :D

OK, the early Mk1s had a very narrow jitter window and had difficulty locking onto some transports. That window was opened up considerably (with no affect on the sound) in the later Mk1s - I'm not sure if there's any visual difference.

The MkII has a power switch and dual BNC inputs to support a 192kHz input. The lid of the MkII is also subtly different - it has a few more ventilation holes and the Chord logo is much less recessed.

Isaac, did you try a TOSlink connection?

Ultra - they don't come with a remote because they don't have anything you can control by remote.

I did try toslink michael. The DAC's owner strongly suggested I should.

I got it to play for 20 seconds or so without cutting out.... going to try a few more things.

Sounds like you need a decent low jitter transport :p

It's not happy. It won't lock to any of the three digital sources I have in the house. Dean's had no problem with the CD16, so not sure what's up. I'll see tomorrow.

Sound like something is a bit dodgy. When it locks on the red LEDs should come on (giving a sort of purple glow in the "window") and then after about 3 or 4s you should hear a quiet "click" (some kind of relay probably). Do the red LEDs go off or stay on?

Like I said, it doesn't have a lid. There's no LEDs in it either.

I've been given the CD6000 as a transport while waiting for Marantz to sort out my player, and the DAC 64 works perfectly fine with it.

But the Chord I have is probably MK II with the earthing upgrade. Enjoy!

Ok, turns out that I was given the wrong one, and this was a faulty unit. Some sort of problem with the linear supply (pre-switch mode). I may be able to get the proper one at some point, but not for a few weeks.

...although I have now struck a deal to take a look at this one. If I can fix it, the words "permanent loan" were mentioned...

Hmmmm..... :rds2: ....you have a DAC64 with a linear PSU? Where did you get it? They never sold those, they were only prototypes. There was someone on here with one a while back. He spoke to Chord and they were quite glad to have it back and gave him a replacement with a SWPSU.
