    Ok,

I have some money to spend and don't know where to put it...I hope you guys do.

I have £250 and a desire for speakers.

My amps are Rotel RB-991s 200w into 8 ohms.

What so people think, I assume this thread has come up before but new offers come up all the time.

    Hi Peter

    Welcome to Zerogain.

If you could tell people - room size, budget, preference of size etc and a few other general facts Im sure you'll get a good response.

Ok... £250 seems a strange budget given your amplification. You say 991s plural... do yo have two biamping?

These will control pretty nasty loads... they don't lack power or grip, although perhaps a little finesse.

Of course, as Chris said, also depends on so many other factors. Off the top of my head an s/h pair of dyns might do the job?

    Welcome to the forum Peter.

As said above, you'll need to give a bit MOre info. What music do you listen to? What sort of sound are you after?

If you do take Isaac's advice and go for Dyn's, then you should be able to pick up a second hand pair of Audience 42s for £250-£300 with a bit of looking around.

MO, you can't biamp with Dyns. Only one pair of terminals. Good rec otherwise.

OTOH, if I may be permitted a shameless plug, he can always try my Mission 774s for a lot cheaper than £250:D.

    ok,
I like any kind of music that is recorded at a high quality. My personal preference lies with Faithless.

The ultimate sounding speaker to me has the midrange and treble of the monitor audio studio 10's without the dissadvantage of little bass and blowing disks every time the volume breaks 10%.

I have two RB-991s as I have a surround system. I have never considered bi-amping them.
Just out of curiosity what kind of price range should I be hitting to equal the quality of the amps?

if you could stretch to the 3-600 quid price range and didn;t mind a bit of diy then i'd say go for some ipl speakers.
    cheers

maybe some floorstanding JM Lab Cobalt or Electras? Lovely midrange and treble. I'm guessing much more bass than I get out of my standmounts.

Incidentally, you could run some Dyns with the Rotels assuming they're bridgeable

The 991 isn't bridgeable, and neither is the current version (RB-1080). The 981 and RB-1070 are the biggest bridgeable rotels.

They have 200w rms per channel, i don't really think they need bridging.
Has anyone bi-amped these at all? Just curious to if it would improve the sound at all.
It improved the quality of my 971's. I had 4;bridged and biamped..it got the sound to a similar level to the 991s at only twice the cost!
