    A Teleton GA202.

If it wasn't 'the' first it was certainly the first that could be termed 'hi-fi'.

I remember liking it and so when i found a near mint and boxed one recently I had to have it. No particular reason for posting this, other than I like it :) I'm bored and I have the flu so can't go out :(
Virtually nothing out there on Teleton so this can be a start. I've found a schematic but nothing more.

Sold mostly through Comet and Laskys in the mid 70s they were dirt cheap and cost about £20 IIRC. Feels very solid and has a chunky mains tx for the rated 15w output.
This one is super clean and has clearly lived inside its box and plastic outer for a couple of decades.

Slightly smaller than a standard width component today it feels and looks dinky IMO.
Given the age, nothing is amiss internally and works fine. No leaky caps and it is pretty quiet electrically. Sounds great on headphones - no speaker dins to try the speaker outputs yet.

I'll give it a service soon but for now here are some pics:

cool - i love the studio style sliders!

    fabbo condition too.

Now that simply has to be paired with a similar era TT and speakers. Do you know what you will be connecting up?

I collect this old junk :) - I think this is amp number 22.

Should go nicely with some AR18s or Dynaco A25s which I also have.

all you really need is a SP25, and a pair of videtone minimax and you have cracked hi-fi nirvana.

They seem to have healed themselves. It was only a little static like clicking in one bass panel but it seems to have stopped. Sometimes it can just be the weather with statics!

I only put them back on because I'd forgotten which panel was ticking and didn't want to get the wrong one serviced :)

Yeah, I love them too. Only sliders provide this instant "pro" feeling :D

My very first amp was around 1978 and was a Trio something or other with about 45 Watts per channel. It was bought from the local Comet Warehouse and was alongside Goodmans RB35 speakers and a Garrard GT25 deck with an Ortofon FF15E cartridge. Oh how I don't want to go back...

My first 'real' amplifier was around 1994 and was a Musical Fidelity A100. One of the best amplifiers I have ever owned and was only sold when I went valve.

My first amp was a Philips (FA900 series I think). It had an output of around 40WPC and served me well until a power spike at home caused the output transistors to blow up.

    Real Amps uhh!!

HI, Seeing all this collection above I really think I might have missed on to these real nice amps. Harman/Kardon HK 990 or NAd is better? I know I wish I could get my hands on one of the earlier beauties but I am skeptical buying for old one actually.
I even read about them on Harman/Kardon and Testfreaks according to reviews I guess both are good enough, what do you say?

This is what I had next to my bed as a child. Many an hour was spent listening to music on this little radio.

And this was my first amp (receiver, to be exact)

Under the flap at the right were sliders which allowed my to use the amp for DJing at school parties, mixing from cassette players and sometimes using my first turntable, a Philips GA 212.

At home, I used it with Wigo speakers which could be hung on the wall.

Here is my first serious amplifier. It is still in good working order.

Rob, ticks in ESLs come and go indeed, but eventually they signal the death of a panel.

This said, my ESL-57s once developed a badass tick that drove me conclude end of life, triggered the acquisition of 63s (that themselves died and were resurrected shortly later).

The 57s went into the office, unconnected, but after a couple of years of lying up there, the tick was gone. And still is. Not that they sound entirely as they should.

    Hi Werner,

I have a Cyrus 2 in the collection and really like it.
Recently serviced it with replacement pots and plastic front panel around the controls. Grey nextel case is nearly mint which is unusual these days. Cracking phono stage. It had been dropped while still packed at some point and landed on the front controls, wrecking the pots and internal selector switchgear plus the plastic bezel. A 'written off' Cyrus 1 became a parts donor:

Both One Thing and Quad seem to think that intermittent and very quiet ticking is nothing to worry about. One bass panel was serviced by One Thing about a year ago and that was very noisy, really loud 'popping' and sometimes a buzz.
Ross walker states in the Quad book that they never figured out what caused this static like noise.

Have you still got the 63s?

What was the date of that Teleton amplifier?

    My first amplifier was a Teleton SAQ206B from Comet in late 1974 - part of a £25 amp/£25 t'table/£25 l'speakers student purchase.

It was a really nice bit of kit.

    Hi Ian,

    Must be 1975-1976.

I also have what would have been the second amp here in the form of a Trio KA1200 and I always assumed this was better. However, comparing them side by side shows the Teleton to be the better built of the two.
I'll put up some photos of the Trio which dates from the same period.
