    Euro 2004...

Look at all the teams, none of the biggies are running away with it, no one is dominating.

Sure we have a few things to shore up , but on the whole we are no worse than the others.

I think we MAY just do it.

If Rooney stops fighting everyone and avoids a red card,we just...................might,but Scholes and Owen will have to find form

defence have been great,Terry a bit off last game, but overall, the most impressive back 4 imho,Ashley Cole is a fabulous player

some great games,Sweden Italy and tonights game in particuler, its been a good tournament so far

in fact, this Cze Holland game is fantastic

Not sure whether I should really start a new thread. If you have been following the story how this hooligan found guilty by a legitimate court are only allowed by British authorities to walk free.

If not read this article in the paper
    link

A little too late I would think. I might be the minority person in Soctland who wish all our British teams to do well in sports when abroad. How is this going to discourage this type of sad behaviour that our young people don't have to behave themselves when overseas?

I wonder if anyone who are knowleadgable in law explain this seemingly idiotic British legal system?

Back to listening to my music. By the way, I would advocate connecting the TV to your superdooper hifi when watching the footbool matches. It is great. ;)

I think things will revert to form.

We may beat Croatia, but will be knocked out IMHO in the semis or quarters.

A slightly odd prediction, but I think Germany will qualify (just) and end up with a France vs Germany final.

Czech republic being my favorite outsider to steam roll through. Last nights game vs Holland was outstanding.

As for Engand, they still seem a little clumsy on the ball, and out of their depth with the quality of competition. Id love them to win, but cant see it.

Football? who cares?, although the game last nite was fun to watch, as the 3 tables in front screen at the local hostalry, decided that who ever hit the post was a bell-end and jumped up to 'show' their diapporoval at his lack of finishing technique, this cause umpteen pints to go everwhere and a mini brawl to break out, excellent entertainment on a rather dull saturday evening.
Even more so when the local plod arrived to disband the little tet a tet' a most pleasant evening amusment.

Ah.. WM, Why pretend you are not interested when you know you want to watch the games as much as the rest of us........then again maybe you are more interested in the girly Big Brother?

If the Holland and Czech excellent match proof only one thing in the end there will have to a looser too......and one should not take it too seriously.

Can't wait for the next match. :D

Portugal vs Spain tonite....be a real shame if the host nation went out.
They deserved to win 4 yrs ago. But I did hate them for a bit when they demolished us. In the end it was very cruel.

I have to say, tho the reffing has been farily lenient, re. not sending off silvestre and james, I do think the yellow card rolling over to the next game is a bit harsh, and red card rule, surely sending off and having 10 men is harsh enuff?
never mind being exluded from the next game.
It happened to the swiss bloke in our game. only a minor ankle trip in an innocuous situation.

Cheqs are looking good. Italy v Cheq final?

I would love us to beat France in the final. just for what they did to us.

    Woofie,

Truthfully I do destest football with a passion, I was 'press ganged' into going out for a beer ;) so I had no choice really.
I much prefer Rugby (I used to play for a well known side many years ago), but with our current form, maybe football is a better option :D

No problem. I do understand why a lot of people really could get extremely annoy with the way almost everyone seem to go on and on about this silly sport. And worst expect everyone else to like it too. It is like F1 to me.

I only watch it with any real interest during the main events like the EURO or the World Cup.

    Hi,

Some good footy in the Euro 2004. England does have a good chance to win but it won't be easy. We could do with Owen getting his shooting boots on.

I agree the Holland v Czech Rep was a very good game. Sweden also look good. You can't discount France, Germany & Italy. It is quite wide open.

I think reffing hasn't been too bad. As for the Silvestre booking on Roony, I don't think Silvestre was the last man. There were other defenders in the box. The one with david James, you could argue that Henry wasn't going directly towards goal. But on other days & different refs, they both could have been given red cards.

Spain v Portugal looks very interesting.

Getting ready for Spain vs. Portugal - should be an excellent game but I'll be gutted (along with the rest of Portugal) if Portugal don't win. They're definitely semi-final material IMO.

None of the favourites having a brilliant tournament so far though. Germany and Italy's hopes of the qtrs are in the balance now, only one of Portugal or Spain will make it through, France and England will probably go through but neither has made it easy for themselves. Oddly enough, Sweden and Denmark are looking amongst the most promising  . I was really pleased when Sweden equalised against Italy the other day. It's about time the Italians learned the lesson that you can't just get one goal and then close the doors  .

After tonight I'll know at least one of the teams I'll be seeing in the qtr final I'm going to on the 24th (Winner Gp. A vs. Runner-up Gp. B). It could yet be Portugal vs. England if I'm not mistaken :MILD: ....and then I'll be torn between which side should win :tempted: .

Although I like Portugal as a team, I will be rooting for Spain. Purely for financial reasons as I have them in the work sweepstake.

Gutted about the Holland result last night, they are my second team (seeing as Anette is Dutch).

Its a fabulous tournament so far,a great advert for football, even though I am cricket fan (football is too girly for me).And Zidane just continues to get better,in my mind,he is better than Platini and almost as good as the late, great Ray Kennedy,a giant amongst midfielders

Zidane should be a joy to watch, you should have seen him 4 yrs ago, wow.

IMO, people like zidane, henry and van nist. really are going to be true greats, what they have done thus far is pretty amazing.

ZZ in partic. is out of this world he should be mentioned in the same breath as Best, Maradona and Pele.

Did anyone see Zidane throwing up before taking the penalty against england?

Didn't see it during the game, but another camera picked it up and they showed it the next day. As he stood waiting to take the pen' he threw up twice before taking the shot!

Not sure if it was from the physical strains of the game in the heat or MOre down to the pressure. I thought surely not pressure, he's the worlds greatest (well, second to Larsson :D ). But then he probably knows everyone watching is thinking the same, so even MOre pressure!

I seen part of the first half and MOst of the second of last nights Holland Czech game. Very good! As said by others, a good advert for the game. Probably the best (whole) game I've seen so far, was the Italy Sweeden game. Italy looked well in form for the first half. And for a short while after the goal, looked like they were going to keep it up, but like Mike says, got what they deserved after slipping into the "get one and shut up" mentality! They did keep a bit of pressure up, but Sweden really got their act together too! Great game!

    Portugal 1, Spain 0 - oh yes :p

Totally deserved win, adios espanha :D The people are all going crazy here  .

With Portugal winning the group it means they probably will face England in the quarters....and I've got tickets for that game :MILD:

A deserved victory for Portugal. I never did have much success with sweepstakes

Micheal, you are also assuming that England will qualify. I think there is plenty of scope for a huge slip up!

    Strange game last night.

Wasn't one of the best. Found it strange that Portugal seemed to only start really playing *after* they went ahead!

Spain on the other hand, never really seemed to get going

Good to see Ronaldo getting a starting place too! He might not get it right all the time, but hugely improves the side when he's on IMO.

Given a couple MOre seasons, and he should have improved other areas of his game up to the standard of his dribbling/running ability, and should be one of the best around!

I've got Croatia in the sweepstake!
