due to the sweltering weather lately. i've found myself consuming more ice cream and lce lollies than usual. favorites so far include...

    1) walls callippo orange and lime flavours. simple ice lolly with no stick a bit chemical with an odd aftertaste but cheap, cheerful an cooling.

    2) exotic fruits solaro. the perfect mix of refreshing and smooth without the clagyness of a full on ice cream.

    3) snickers ice cream bar. clag to the max but very tasty.

    4) white choc magnum. similar clag factor toi the snickers but mmmmm....

ones that havent floated my boat much..

    1) fruit pastille lolly. bit dull really and the flavours are weak.

    2) feast. the worst chocolate ever in the center. the death of a classic

    3) '99 usually a classic but at these elevated temperatures by the time you've got from the van to home its dripping down your hand

    4) tesco's 'finest' clotted cream splits. awful water ice icecream and very tart lolly bit. not nice really.

so what's your opinion? any others to add?
    cheers

5 litre tub of icelands finest "elcheapo",split into smaller tubs and add 1/2 a tin of milkshake powder of your choice to each tub, instant coffee mixed with a bit of water also works well

Well, mine was Gino Ginelli mint - but I think it's discontinued...

Langage Farm ice cream (Devon local farm produce) is LAVISH if you ever see it - think it was available in Tescos but I could be wrong....

Some of the new Magnum '7 Deadly Sins' are rather lush (as is the bird in the advert !).
Yes - I'm a fat barsteward and have tried them all :D.

Ben 'n' Jerry's "New York Super Fudge Chunk" is also rather tasty.
I had Haagen Daz Vanilla last night and quite frankly it's mingin'.

ben and jerry's phish food is my fave b&j ice cream. especially if you hit the mother lode of mashmallow and caramel so to speak.

tried some vermont maple pecan ben & jerrys and wasn't impressed.

yet to try cherry garcia or the fudgy one.
    cheers

Caramel ice cream. Provided you make it yourself. Very nice with a slice of warm tarte tatin.

    Yum, yum. . .

My mother made Homemade Ice Cream Recipe - Brown Bread Ice Cream many years ago and I've not tasted it since. From what I can remember it tasted rather fine or is that just the passing of the years?

    Ps One to try

Buy the best Strawberry ice cream yiu can get.
Prick holes into the surface with a fork.
Dribble red Tabasco sauce into the holes (same colour as ice cream).
Wizz the fork over the surface to hide the holes.
Decant the Tabasco/Strawberry ice cream into small bowls.
Watch the expressions as people try to decide if the ice cream is hot or cold.
I got this hot ice cream idea from my trips to Texas - land of the mighty Tabasco Sauce.

tub of Smarties ice cream- about £2,80 a tub but frequently on BOGOFs at Sainsburys and Tescos. Avoid the Yorkie tubs- big disappointment :boughtMF:

I've never had a Hagaan Daaz (whatever!?) that I've actually enjoyed to be quite frank - thankfully I've never paid for any or I'd be annoyed...

Also, I've NEVER had Ben and Jerrys - what's a good "intro" flavour to try!? I hate vanilla btw - boring in the max...

    dom,
give phish food a try. chocolate ice cream swirled with marshmallow and caramel sauce with plain chocolate fish shapes in it. let it melt for about 5 mins out of the freezer before digging in... it takes an act of will to stop eating the stuff.
    cheers

Carte D'Or is good. Far better value than Ben and Jerry's, which quite frankly is a king rip-off.

A few ideas from the Guardian on the cool subject of Ice Cream. Has anyone tried Tesco's finest Madagascan?

    I'm quite partial to a Haagen :p

Not tried it yet but heard good things about Thorntons one (in a cone) complete with fudge and choclate.
