    Now that's a toe breaker !
Not exactly one for an upstairs system either. You'd put your [and a few other people's] backs out carrying that. Then you'd put it on the floor and it would go straight through . 80+ kg ? What do they put in it ?

And at a idle power consumption of 430w it will double as a room heater.

And the ability to drive 6" tungsten carbide nails into solid concrete floors with ease, I do believe Laing construction used the earlier 300 Full power balance to help with pile driving on new building projects :D

Why do people do "private" auctions for these things? (a private auction is where you can't see who's been bidding).

A sealed auction tends to do better for the seller when there is likely to be many people who will make lowish bids and one or a few who will make high bids because they want the item very much. These latter don't want to risk losing the item, so they make a higher bid than they would have in an ordinary auction.

There is some kind of theory behind auction-types that economists study, but I can't think of a google search phrase :)

    Steve,
You're confusing sealed bids with a private auction. The tehory behind a private auction is that if the item is particulalry expensive you can avoid being seen to win it, that is to say your name won't be plastered all over newsgroups with "***** just paid £5000 for a length of speaker cable" or suchlike.
As is also becoming common, it stops con artists contacting bidders and telling them they can get the item for half the price.
Finally, and controversially, it's very good for the con artists themselves, they can post a dodgy auction and no-one can contact the high bidder to warn them of the danger they are in.

I don't understand how this thing can have a 6000W power consumption potential and yet only a single power cord. Something odd there.

6000 Watts  That's 24 Amps!!! You'd need a dedicated spur like the one for an electric cooker! In fact the Krell would probably make quite a good cooker :p

That's still too much power for one 13A mains lead - aren't they rated up to 3300 watts??? You'd need 3 phase and feck loads of t&e for that bohemoth.

I reckon it would work better as a cooker than an amp anyway - Krell's Bells....!

Actually Penance, if you are running say a pair of Apogee Divae, then it's music output!

The 700cx will output over 3kw per channel into a 2 ohm load all day without a problem, about 1.7kw per channel into 4 ohms.

Heard the 400cx the other week and....well it's big sounding. I guess my preferences lie elsewhere, my leanings more towards the inner detailing afforded by valves and clever fet designs. the 400 could certainly kick ass though, quite capable of driving anything, including your skull into the wall I suspect.

No you're not, it was just that your post was in response to someone shocked by the thought of 3000wpc. The truth is, the 700cx is capable of just such an output, whereas you seemed to be inferring that 6kw only referred to power consumption, not output.
