Just been offered a promotion I've been angling for - based in San Francisco. Might not go yet, salary negotiations have begun in earnest - let's see if they can afford me!

...be sure to wear some flowers in your hair (I'd have to use cyanoacrylate adhesive to keep mine there).

Some parts of San Francisco are wickedly expensive accomodation-wise - I found this out when offered a position there by a major law firm (in Menlo Park actually) - anything even vaguely livable cost over $US1 million. The only way around was a long commute, invariably by car (no Swiss Federal Railways there), and that, plus a requirement for 8 billable hours a day (meaning at least 10 hours in the office), made it doubtful. In the end, the family decided that the US was nice to visit, but they didn't actually want to live there, so that was that.

Anyway, good luck with the negotiations. It's certainly a very agreeable place.

    Nice

I was looking at this part of the world three years ago but the business evaporated as the recession hit the area, these local papers will give you an idea of what is happening.

Silicon Valley News - The Valley - IT and other hi-tech things.
SF Gate: News and Information for the San Francisco Bay Area - Daily news local & international - look at the property pages.
San Francisco Examiner - Daily news local & international - look at the property pages.

Want to live near Larry from Oracle?

On his floor? I'm sure if you ask nicely he'll give you a chair, maybe even a desk.

Did have a lot more here, but accidentally hit back and lost the lot. Hey ho my literary genius will have to remain hidden.

Most places are better than Reading :)

Caversham instantly springs to mind, and it's just a 3 minute walk across the river...
