    HI Chaps,

Sorry for the non-fi post but maybe you can help...

I have an INfocus projector that feeds off my xbox 360. It's currently on a sideboard but I want to install it on the celing and trail wires through the hollow internal wall behind it, down to the floor where the xbox sits.

Can anyone give me a ballpark figure as to how much I should expect to pay for this? Can anyone in london do it for a reasonable amount? It is maybe something that a builder or electirican can do (I can calibrate the PJ and sort out the sound etc).

Advice and recommendations would be very welcome!

    Cheers,

    DT

Hi, if you're after one of the ceiling mounts that properly installs into the ceiling (i.e. the retractible type that disappears out of view when not in use) then you looking at a couple of grand. I would suggest using a specialist home cinema installer rather than a builder or sparky.

If you just want to dangle a ceiling mount off a conveniently available joist and trail the power and signal cabling through a hole in the ceiling, through the voids and out of a hole in the wall, then that shouldn't be a major job - I would have thought £100-200 depending on where you are. I think your main problem will be getting someone willing to tackle such a small job - it's not skilled work, so maybe try an odd job man, which will likely be much cheaper, if you don't fancy having a go yourself.

This assumes that for power, you'll just trail a long power lead from projector to wall socket - if you're thinking of something else (maybe installing a power socket hidden in the ceiling void?), you'll definitely need a sparky for that - a general builder wouldn't go near that job.

Thanks LBR. I don't think the job will require a specialist. I think a handyman/sparky might be able to get the job done. I'm bloody useless at DIY so I'd rather get someone in who knows what they're doing. Might also be able to get some other odd jobs done while he's there...
