I wouldn't have thought the vdh cables are causing the shrill female vocals. I run the same interconnects and if anything they help to tame just what you are reporting. What is your full system and hi fi environment?

Klotz 'La Grange' interconnect will do the job nicely and a couple of mtr lengths will give you £495 change.

Musiflex microphone cable at 75p pm is even cheaper and ideal if you need a balanced cable.

What makes you think it is the cables at all? It is much more likely to be the equipment matching or the acoustics.

Frankly I think anyone that spends more than £20 on a cable is nuts!

sorry tenson i beg to differ, not all cables are worth their asking price, but they do make a great difference to the sound, £20.00, well all i can say is if you buy a ferrari and put the weels of a mini,, enough said, nando.

...then it would look REALLY cool!

You may have a different opinion but I can still think you are nuts for it :p

I would use the analogy of getting a Fararri and using copper cables to connect the fuel control computer (do they have one?! I'm not a car person). What are you doing?! It will of course go much faster if the cables used are copper/silver twisted with Teflon (not PVC!) jacket and silver solder is used.

doesnt the interconnect make a big difference to the transparency of the final sound? or is it a tone adjustment in effect?

I would argue that unless the cable has extreme electrical properties which make it interact poorly with the load and source they will all sound the same.

Going back to the Ferrari analogy, it's a bit like comparing a red one to another covered in gold plate with diamond studded headlamps....

Having played with IC's a lot [must get a life] they make a considerable difference to the final sound ....

I would also suggest the DIY approach ..at least your not subject to the incredible mark up of some commercial cables. A good ic can be made for as little as £20 [silver in ptfe].

Good ic's will generally just have different flavours...but a bad one will strangle the music.

Accepting that they do effect the sound in some way, If i was to build a pair then what gauge cable should i buy, whose phono plugs, and would I need a better than "Standard" soldering iron (ie. better than the iron that most folk have tucked away at the back of their toolbox?)

Just fancy a bit of a new challenge;)

No a standard Iron should be fine .....

if on a budget get the following

Neutrik ny[?] series plugs approx £1 each
cable ....well you can't beat 32awg copper magnet wire wire wrap £5 per 1000m ish
some sleeve to protect the thin wires ptfe or similar
twist two cores and attach plugs

If cost is no object ......

eichmann silver bullets £75 set of four
1mm high purity silver and suitable sleeve run these in parallel with a 2mm separation, sheath the whole to keep it together and protect your conductors ....

or use 0.2mm silver ....in the first recipe ....

you can use silver solder this will prevent leaching in the joints.

if you need any more specific info have a look in the diy section I've placed several recipes there or pm me.
