    Hi

I am currently using IPL STL5 speakers.

They use a 10" in a transmission line, a vifa mid-dome and a highly regarded Morel tweeter.

I once worked out the ''sale cost'' of the drive units and came in roughly at £400. As a kit, you can get the speaker (a drawing, some mdf and the drive units) for roughly £600.

To get them looking like this you'd need to spend a load on oak, and a carpenter to make them for you. I reckon you're talking 3 days of a proffessionals time - roughly another £600 then. Add the price of the 'tweaks' (like the solid oak bases), and to get these made for you would cost roughly £1,400.

At that price you'd have a real bargain. Frankly I prefer these to the Audionote E's I had before, and even the LIving Voice Avatar's I used to own. They are truly full range, filling my 16x11 living room effortlessly. If you like a big full, and very neutral sound these are up your street.

I can't think of a commercial design like it without a price tag of £3,000-£5,000. They sound like they cost that much, no problem at all.

I don't want to sell them yet if I can help it - I'm getting some uber-DIY speakers built, but they are going to be another month at least. If you're interested send me a PM.

I keep wondering why I'm replacing them, and frankly I wish I hadn't started!! - If I could get back the money I've spent on importing drive units from my new design from the USA (and all the other bits) I would, and just keep these. I could happily live with them forever and a day.

I'm looking for circa £700, which I think is fair considering what you're getting. Certainly, if you gave me £700 I couldn't get you a better speaker on Ebay for the money.

Oh, by the way the crossovers are in boxes on the back making it dead easy to tweak if you want, and of course it's better to have them seperate like this anyway.

I've put photos on Photobox for you to look at.

Check out the size of these - a real full range 3 way, not to be confused with wussy audiophile designs!! :D

    hi

finish is a painted finish, as in photos above. The wood shown is solid oak.

    The colour is cream.

It is a nice colour I think, and blends in with my room being neutral.

You could re-paint them quite easily if you wanted another colour of course.

    cheers

no, a joiner chap did it.

I think sensitivity is in the early 90's. 91db or something. More importantly 30w + is more than adequate.

The oak bases? yes, but then the speaker would be the wrong height.
