Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it an SACD player?

That is possibly the most absurd design I've seen since the last Shanling player...

It's not exactly cheap at around £3,900 (converted from the $55,000 Hong Kong Dollar price) Then with the mark up of British dealers it will be even more!

    How much is the Metronome?

Nah Tone, I don't like it looks like one of those "simon" electronic toys, very tacky and not at all like what I'm used to, I prefer my bling to be minimalist, too many colours on that one. Now I do happen to like the kalista, but this is just a crude copycat(in the styling dept at least), FWIW I liked the other shanling the CDT200, but the build quality is not as good as it looks in the piccies (sorry alan), it's good but not great, but looks a lot better than that bloody monstrosity.

Here's what I said about Shanling SCD-T200 build quality back in August:

"Other reviews of the player have made much of the alleged high standard of build quality... not sure I can agree totally. I had to loosen one of the players feet before it sat straight on the rack. It looks a million dollars from a short distance away, but close up the panel gaps in various places would attract comment in a car magazine. In use, the open transport mechanism means that there can be a bit of noise from the player, especially so if playing a marked or scratched disc."

So no need to apologize AK!

After several months living with it, I wouldn't want another player that glows, particularly orange and blue. It lights up the room, and I'd prefer total darkness.

I've taken the valves out as I don't use them - the solid state output stage is preferable and my enclosed rack means I can't access the headphone socket on the side.... which is a great shame as its a superb headphone output. I still think its a superb player on SACD.

Wow, that's pretty crazy. First thing that popped into my mind was "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". :D

I quite like the look of it, but I would be far too embarrassed to have it in my equipment rack. :)

Meant to add Alan, a friend of mine took a gamble on the CDT200 from China, still not received it yet, should be here next week, he was a little apprehensive, considering the scare stories surrounding the voltage, I sent him the link to your excellent review, he's a lot happier now, and thought the review "fascinating" he was particularly pleased to note no trouble re voltage, just thought you'd like to know he appreciated it.

    Cheers.
