Some of you may be aware that another [High-Profile] footballer has recently died on the field of play.

    (The story is here )

Now, when Marc-Vivien Foe died under similar circumstances [France v's Cameroon] during the summer, I was shocked, (but not surprised), that the incident was shown repeatedly on the News. That was on SKYNews and I have to say that if it's not either UK cr*p or related [in some miniscule way] to the Yankers; then it's this sort of thing. Did anybody else see the video of the woman repeatedly driving over her husband ?

So, it was to my suprise today that Euronews (Sky/cable viewers will know this channel) decided to show the incident relating to the Benfica player in all it's slo-mo glory . Practically a snuff film but the victim did all the hard work.

Am I just growing old or does anybody else find the standard of television these days quite frankly attrocious ?

Now is the time to admit defeat and just get rid of your TV. It may take a few days but I reckon you'll feel a lot better given time.

You're not growing old and you are not alone.

Speaking as someone whole sold his telly 15 months ago and has never looked back, I can only agree. I am occassionaly subjected to TV at the houses of friends and family, and these occassions only serve to reaffirm that I made the right decision. TV is nearly all crap. There is very little that is new, and of that, very little that is worthwhile. But then I am growing old

Goomer, when I first moved to Luxembourg (almost 6 years ago) I lived without a TV for 18 months. I didn't miss it :) and I used to go down the local  :guiness: :chunder: to watch the football; so most of my time was spent immersed in :music:.

But I recently bought a Panasonic Plasma.
So the TV stays :D .

Bin the aerial then. Or, don't watch it.

Or, we could set up our own production team and television network.

ZG - Specialist channel for cultured audio enthusiasts.

0000-2355 Mon-Sun. Live blind testing from around the world. Engineered by Paul Ranson, finance courtesy of Lawrie towers. A healthy dose of ardent activists, including prominent clipboard collector Wolfgang. Laughing at the back courtesy of WM and anyone who owns anything more expensive than a Marantz. Security courtesy of the fearless Michaelab.

2355-0000. Mon-Sun. Music spot. Aventgarde Jazz from Sideshowbob and Lilolee. Rock legends with WM. Tripped out, pissed up dance and techno spliff massivs courtesy of the horny PBirkett. Classical culture - research courtesy of GrahamN, out in the field. Organ recitals from the baroque castle of the venerable RDS. Beautiful and delicate cantata pieces from Tones on special location at our Alpine studios. 80s trash and anything that nobody else would openly admit to listening to, but really does on the sly, by Dom. SCDIB on decks with 70s retro and motown craziness. And unheard of music delights courtesy of Sideshowbob, despite protest from rock legend WM. Special bimonthly trivia, pit your wits against the fountain of knowledge SCDIB. 10000 of his most disposable records to the winner........

Being as this was a Portuguese league game they interrupted my favourite soap opera here to bring news of the player's collapse. At that time he hadn't died yet and the scene was shown a number of times

As for TV in general - load of cr@p mostly. Especially Portuguese TV. One or two soaps occasionally entertaining though but my monthly trips to the UK remind me how much better TV in the UK is than anywhere else I've experienced it. Still, I couldn't live without TV for watching my beloved Formula 1 - only 40 days to go until the season kicks off!!

Would find it hard to live without DVDs aswell...talking of DVDs, Chris, I guess you use your PC to watch porn then? :D

    Michael.
