To remove the pop up bits of this forum, there is nothing I find more annoying.

It serves no purpose, if you want to know the contents of the thread, press the bloody button!

Yes there is, or at least a way to reduce the size of the popups - use firefox rather than IE :), which, for me at least, only shows a single line of the pop up boxes with the first posts contents when you hover over a thread, rather than more lines of text.

I think there is another way to get rid of the pop ups that appear when you 'hover' over a thread link (these pop ups are like the windows tooltips, and show the first few lines of the first post in the thread), I seem to recall when a forum I help moderate changed to vb3, everybody moaned about them, and I believe there were a few settings changed that made them pop up more slowly and made them smaller...unfortunately as I'm not admin, it wasn't me that did it....so I can't remember.....

FireFox does indeed only show the first 50 or so chars of the "tooltips" regardless of how long they are configured for on the forum. FWIW I've now reduced their max. length from 300 to 100 chars.

The popups can only be disabled on a forum wide basis. A straw poll of users seems to indicate the most people like them allthough I have to admit they have limited usefulness (since they only ever show the first post in a thread) and I wouldn't be averse to turning them off if a majority of users didn't want them.

See what you've done now Gary, you've brought the Firefox zealots out of the woodwork again ;) :D

FYI though, Gary uses a Mac, so I very much doubt he uses IE anyway. So nerrrr! :p

    Yeah, I like em.

Also, I like the 'quick reply' thing., anything that speeds things up is good in my book..

the ability to attach small pics like thumbnails is great too. I think this can be used more in the buy/sell sections specially.

Maybe a thread on the pro/cons of the new software might be an idea? Personally big thumbs up. :)

The thumbnails thing is that, if you attach an image, it will appear in the thread as a thumbnail and then you have to click that to get the full image. Saves bandwidth because only those who really want to see the full picture will click on it.

I'm not really sure what all the differences with the new software are yet but I'll see what I can remember and start a thread later if no one's already done it.

Paul - IE is available for the Mac ;)

I think they are great! Saves having to open a thread only to find out it's about Eltax speakers :)

I really cannot understand people getting wound up by them, you guys must lead very sheltered lives.

Don't really bother me. Seems to be quite good on new threads. Like the online buttons and some of the other features. Does seem a little cluttered though

Move the mouse over a topic and keep it there, this is what I think gary is on about :-

It does it in IE too and it should in opera as it's in the html :-
