Hey, you looked... :p
"Which one is Isaac?" was going to be my reply but MO beat me to it Anyway, what type of bird is it? Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon? Great pic btw Michael.
The bird is a European Buzzard (Buteo Buteo). The photograph thanks to Paula Graham, another photographer mad enough to brave the weather and mud on sunday to join the photo session flying the birds (we also flew harris hawks, eagle owl and barn owls).
Isaac, was that at the NBOPC @ Newent?, or the one in M-IN-N, beautifully gracefull and rutherless killing machines as well, nature in prefect harmony, untill man balls'd it up
No, this was at the Barn Owl centre in Brockworth. The NBOPC is a more commercial falconry establishment, while the barn owl centre is strictly rescue/rehabilitation (release does not work for captive bred birds) and conservation. With a little help from them we hope to get wild barn owls on our own property here (we already have tawny owls). Indeed they are amazing creatures. Eagle owls (which I also had the opportunity to fly) in particular are incredible, with their harnessing of ground effect and completely silent flight... And yet people manage to ignore that birds of prey are all around them every day (even in cities... I've seen buzzard, kestrel and peregrine in UK towns)...
hey, stunning bird! I've seen a few at the local stanhope / wolsingham farm fairs where I live! cool!:MILD:
