    Problem here Bob?

    :)

Edit: I am using the term as a generic one.

Do you know of a term which you feel would be more appropriate?

    Yes, right.

I am using two machines at the moment....a modded arcam a5 ( coutessy of zansah) and a marantze 63 ki.

Both have responded to a granite slab being fastened to the bottom ( i removed the feet altogther) using blu tak........that modeller s clay sounds interesting thouigh.....do you think its better than blu tak?

I have experimented a bit with masses.......mild steel plate.....granite.....and slate.

Yes, all these materials will ahve their own natural resonant frequency......I use rubber to (minimoise) damp this.

In someways I wa sceptical of using absorbant material feeling that I shouln't be interupting the flow of energy away from the player.....ie I shouild be focussing on DISSIPATING the energy ....the point of the cones +bearings of course.

I have to say I have not come to satisfatory answer on this......suffice to say that the propriorary isolation plinths on the market all seem to use a degree of absorbant material in them.

As you say , mass....and certainly stabilty are (IME) key factors here.

"I replaced the thin metal base plate with a 10 mm thick brushed and laquered aluminum plate "

.....I would think you noticed a BIG difference.....?

exactly what i would have done.

    I can well beleive it....

    Yes very much so.

    Not easy atall.

    what material did you use?

    results?

I have a workshop ....but little time to get in it frusratingly....

    Regards D Louth[/QUOTE]

thanks DL......I am alwys intersted in ideas of disspitaion ...and damping......absorbtion.....

Symposium rollerblocks are the best. Period. They are not cheap. I have them under all of my gear including the turntables and on my Symposium rack. I always thought that expensive racks were a total waste of money. Guess I was wrong.

I can think of better things to do with the wineglasses!

    For isolation, I use cd-str5:

I can honestly say I am to a certain extent and through going round in circles with this kind of thing in the past, a bit of a skeptic.I 've just been sitting hearing stuff I'd not heard before.I'm going to remove the glasses but position the dac1 and equivalent distance and keep the digi soundpipe the same length and shape to see if these latter changes are what's responsible...

Trying inverting them and filling them with a drop of Clearskin Australian Red as reccomended by Martha - see avatar. Brings warmth and a certain fruitiness to the sound.

Martha does bear a striking resemblance to the new mayor of London....:)

This is well wierd-I was just thinking what has a large surface area that tapers to a very small one like an inverted cone and thought wineglass..Well it would appear the refinement and improved clarity is down to the wineglasses...which incidentally are quite a bit stronger than you may imagine. See pic. That's 7 paving blocks and an old housebrick.
You'll need someone to help and must use the smaller stubbier type of glasses but try it-I'm astonished TBH.http://www.zerogain.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1183&stc=1&d=1214946551though as an old skeptic myself, I must qualify it with 'your mileage may vary'

Just a bit of fun and experimentation-key is to have an open mind. Those bricks on one glass weigh more than the Teac so 3 glasses is a reasonable safety margin.
The base is just a Tesco granite chopping board-I like to work cheap me. Obviously it isn't practical;-) but something is going on-maybe .

Yeah David, I'll move it over to the trade section:D

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has tried it. Maybe they think 'cos it looks mad it's some kind of piss take-it isn't and I've still got them in place.

    Sure it didn't.

One thing that has crossed my mind is it isn't the glass that's 'good' but maybe the granite shelf is 'bad' and the glass is going some way to neutralise its effect ...maybe I'll keep it to myself...
