Im thinking of buying some s/h isolda, but a tad confused.
They say they are set up somehow to show an 8ohm load to the amp at all times, but my speakers are 4ohm.
    will this matter?

Andy, there is a zobel network attachted to the cable, so even the Naim boys can have benefit of proper speaker cable, in answer NO probs at all. Wm

    There's a 4m set on Hifi for sale, bargin a mere £300 :)

This cable is in mint condition - it less than a year old - it is the latest specification Deep Cryogenically Treated Version. Each cable in the pair is 4m in length. Please see my other 'for sale' items as I am reluctantly selling my entire system to raise funds.

In a word, no :D I don't really know the science behind it but some amplifiers (eg Naim) would become unstable when used with this type of cable unless they used the so called "Zobel network" (the thing inside that funny metal tube bit) on the cable. The cable can be used with speakers of any impedance.

Google on "Goertz cable" and "Zobel network" to find out more.

Goertz, Electrofluidics, Isolda - all the same basic cable (and idea). In fact I think that Townshend and Electrofluidics get their cable from Goertz. Townshend is the only one that has the Deep Cryogenic Treatment (DCT).

A handy tip if you're ordering new cable from Townshend is that you the price doesn't change for lengths between the metre boundaries, eg, if you buy 2.75m you still only pay the 2m price :)

    1. Make sure you buy mint:

    - bend it about and it work hardens, reorganising the crystal structure of the copper - this aint bullshit from a metallurgical point of view, whether it makes any real sonic difference is another question.

    2. Isolda can be used in unequal lengths.

    Try before you buy

Isolda is a great cable no question.

However, despite it having been a night-and-day experience in the dem room with Naim kit and Ruark Prologue Two speakers, my Naos speakers just didn't take to it at home.

I noticed more top-end detail, but the mids and bass sounded coloured in comparison with my Naca5. I guess the cabinets of my speakers had resonances that were set off by the fequency response characteristics of this cable.

If I upgraded my speakers, I'd give the Isolda another go.
