I never open "strange" stuff like this, so I hope I am clean, plus I have VirusScan that updates all the time, particullarly this last couple of days... :MILD:

As I rule I never open attachments unless I know who the sender is. I also avoid using Kazza or any of peer to peer services. (apart from MSN of course)

Never open an email attachment from an unknown source.

Even it is a known source, copy the file to a floppy and use an upto date virus checker.

You can dowload a good anit-vrus program at http://www.zerogain.com
    They also provide free updates

Had about 20 last night as well, one, which very nearly caught me out, was from [email protected], where I have recently put ads on, and in the subject was 'sold', not like the others i.e. 'wicked screensaver', or 'your details' etc, lucky old Norton still doing the business.

Yep I had the "wicked screensaver" one with one or two others, resulting in me deleting the offending email without even looking at it.

Anyone remember the Richersounds fiasco last year when someone had managed to get hold of the rs customer list and emailed each and everyone of them a virus??

SoBig Virus - the good guys might have won

I too had an inbox full of very dodgy looking email headers but as I use a web based email service who caught them all and directed them into my "crap" folder I'm not too bothered. I use AGV & ZoneAlarm and they seem to served me well over the last few virus plauges.

A resonable account of how the SoBig virus was countered.

OK guys - you all know about not opening unexpected e-mail attachements but over the paset week my machine has contracted 2 viruses that have slowed things down.

These have NOT been transferred by e-mail asI haven't had any e-mails with attachements let alone opened them, they come over the net somehow.

I have a free Firewall (Zonealarm) and I have used a good free antivirus that has found them and deleted them - AVG from grisoft. Neither of these have stopped the virus entering the computer.

These two visuses were worms and have also knoked our work system back.
So please - download a virus checker or update your software NOW and scan your hard drives etc.

    DO IT NOW

    Cheers

What I day I have had. My Athlon 2000 has started running like a 386 in the last few days.

I decided to format my PC, but to my horror when I did I kept getting the blaster shut down screens, I've fixed this now but blocking distrubuted coms, but it seems the blaster virus sits on your hard drive and comes back to life even when you format it. When you format a hard drive all you are doing is telling your operating system its safe to physicaly remove all the files, however it dosn't actually do this until it needs space on the next installation (if this makes sence) therefor clever viruses may be able to recreate themselves.

My PC is running much much faster now, so formatting and my other trick fixied it. If you want to know how I solved it please ask I will post the full details.

Wow I cannot believe how fast my PC is now!

I got 14 SoBig virus emails today.
But my ISP had already incerinated the virus befor forwarding the emails to me.

Looks a if the IT industry is on top of this problem.

    Well, at least for now!
