I'm sitting here working and I can hear the fizz and pop of fireworks nearby. Are they late or early this year? I can't tell. More worringly, what sort of lame brain sets off rockets and Roman candles during the middle of the day?

It'll be the start of Diwali won't it, man I'll miss that this year (being in Wales now means there isn't the same large Indian population who set off fireworks in extravagant quantities and the family over the road won't have a vast surplus of samosas, sheek kebabs and onion bhajees that they always used to offer us after they'd had some party to celebrate).
