I think it could go either way, but though I'd like France to win, I feel Italy might edge it.

I hope Zidane turns it on like he did against Brazil.

Could be a classic couldn't it. If Italy play like they did against Germany and Zidane and co turn it on as they can. Would like to see France win it for Zizous last hurrah but happy to see either team win it if they play well.

I suspect Italy will win, but I rather hope the French do.

I would like to see Zidane hold up the world cup. It would be a fitting end to his international career.

I travel to Italy tomorrow for my vacation, so I will watch the final there. I hope I can find a place in a pub somewhere to watch together with Italians. And then I hope they will win, so I can see all those people get mad.

I dont know and dont care who will win. I will be watching it though, but both are good teams who are capable of winning. If I was to put my head on the chopping board i'd go for italy, though. They just seem to look a bit more skillful overall.

I don't imagine you'll have much trouble finding somewhere!

My wanting France to win is purely down to the Zidane factor. However, Italy deserve something for the way they've aproached their games in this cup. Far MOre attacking than previous.

Hope it's an open attacking game.

Well the general feeling here proved right. Italy wins, rightly so IMO. That's football. See you in four years.

You seem to be taking it very well SG. Has there been any word from ZZ in the press about his "madness"?

AFAIK it was completely out of character for ZZ. I wonder what the Italian player said to him, not that anything would justify the act, just curious.

I have not read anything yet, but my son tells me that despite all, ZZ got elected world cup best player .
On French TV, right after the game, fellow players from the 1998 team were speaking of ZZ's "dark side"... I guess we all have one.
And yes I'm taking it quite well because I don't care that much about soccer anyway, and think things were being blown up out of proportion (we had never seen cars speeding through Paris with national flags before). It's only a game.
Now back to the Tour de France :)

Seems the Italian player (Matterazzi?) said something racially offensive about Zidane's dead mother, from reading around. Doesn't excuse his action, but I can understand it getting him riled. As soon as I saw it happen, I thought it must have been something racist from the suddenness of the violent reaction.

    Cripes...that sounds a bit harsh.

Was dissapointed with Zizou as I've always admired him, but I was more dissapointed for him. Also a shame it blighted the game. It was a little bit amusing though. Funny that he even managed to headbutt someone with style! I'll be remembering him for what a great player he was although I think people will now get hung up on that incident.
