Not arrived yet but supposedly little used, in excellent condition and sporting the original 310MC cartridge.

Always wanted one but the shame of buying a Technics... and even worse a direct drive Technics <spit> meant it never happened.

Anyone here owned one or still use one?

Is this the one designed to go with that cartridge my Dad has? Does it come with a cartridge?

This comes with a 'P Mount' cartridge also known as TP4.
These are all designed to be interchangeable and bring a degree of standardisation to the arm/cartridge interface - real plug and play cartridges.

The EPS310 fitted to this deck is very highly regarded and they often go for >£200, so the deck effectively cost me £48 :)
Assuming it all works and survives the transport.

Your Dad has the EPC205C which is excellent (MM) but wont fit this arm, though there was a TP4 version.

Oooh, interesting. I've wanted to hear one of those for a while. Joel is the man here, he has a pair of 'em IIRC.

Asuming the 310 cart is in good condition we can do a needledrop against the P9 - I have a TP4 adapter so can use the 310 on both decks.

    It's coming on Monday :)

I get more excited by these classic old things than most new stuff.

Landed today...... Oooh it's all shinny and cute with lots of pretty lights.

    Me like :)

Has the technics EPS310 MC fitted and all seems to be working well other than the cuing buttons which seem to need a few presses, but that's getting better so probably just indicates that the thing has been sitting unused for many years.

    Wonderfully silent (and powerful) motor.
Rubber in the feet seems fine and the suspension is working fine.

All in all a good result.

Pardon?..... what does it sound like?

    Later :)

I like it lots though I could never get along with the full auto operation as it would drive me crackers.
Cuing is incredibly slow and not helped by the perspex window being smoked - bloody silly idea!

Amazing to think that these are now 30 years old.

The mute circuit is interesting - output is muted to surpress the sound of the cartridge 'plop' as it lowers onto the record and lifts off. All very slick and CD player like.

I had one. Bought it in 1981 when I was moving around a lot, so easy to set-up. CD sounded good by comparison (Philips CD100) and a Rega Planar 3 trounced it. Gone!

Congrats, Rob, on obtaining the SL-10. It is rather good and somewhat of a 'giant-killer' ;)

Apologies if it's already been mentioned elsewhere on the forum, but do you have any plans to try some of the (NOS) highly-rated vintage P-mount cartridges, such as the Technics EPC 205 MK3 (or any of the other highly-regarded vintage types)?

Those really are quite special... :)

    Marco.

Yes its a lovely deck and I was pleasantly surprised at the performance.
It came with a Technics EPS310MC which is highly regarded. I'll get it re-tipped at some point as some brief experiments with a P mount Grado were not good.

Another option is to fit a SAS ML stylus to one of the Technics MMs.
I bought a NOS Technics P531recently to do just that. Apparently the internals are all very similar and the stylus is the primary difference on these models.
