I have been listening to some tracks from an Anime OST (original sound track) and it has some really good jazz on there as well as a few other things. I really love that sort of big band stuff, but I don’t have enough of it!

I have uploaded a few of my favourite tracks and I was hoping you guys could recommend where to look for similar stuff. I hope I can get away with uploading the music as ‘fair use’. If you like it, please buy the original tracks, just look on eBay for Cowboy Bebop OST. They are very good recordings so well worth the money. I will also remove these tracks when this thread has run its course.

Most of the music is by a group called the ‘Seatbelts’ but they only do stuff for Anime soundtracks, mainly the Cowboy Bebop series. Composed by Yoko Kanno. Their name comes from the fact they have to strap themselves in for safety during hardcore jamming sessions!

While I do like big band, I find a lot of jazz is a bit boring. I only like it when it has direction and drive and the song progresses from start to end as a written piece. A lot of the improv stuff is rather tiresome to me. Some is good admittedly.

I also like some jazz / electronic mixture stuff such as the tracks below, so again please point me in the right direction for more!

The couple I clicked on sounded a bit 60's hard bop to me. There are some really good ideas on this thread on PFM:

Stay away from the ECM stuff, that isn't what you want at the minute.
You might also like some of the later Basie, try Atomic Basie.
If it's big band stuff you're after, Ellington and Basie are your men.
I'm not so sure you might look for for later stuff. Perhaps ask over at PFM, there are a lot of Jazzers over there.

    You might like Steve Tibbets

His ECM albums are very accessable and most are still avaiable new on Vinyl LP from www.ecmrecords.com. 3 must buy albums from this wonderful label are 1; Crystal Silence- 2; Return to Forever- and 3; Grazing Dreams. All still available on Lp and CD

His recent collaboration with the Tibetan Nun Choyling Drolma "Sewla" is the most beautiful fragile peice of work he has produced in a while and should be near the top of anyones list. You can sample it on Utube
