Sorry Julian, no idea. There are good JBL's and bad JBL's. The really bad ones are usually built in China.

you could try over at http://www.audioheritage.org

Do you mean the JBL 18Ti? I've never heard a pair, but I do know that these are front-ported bookshelf speakers (bookshelf is generally a bad sign with JBL...) from the mid-eighties. Personally, and if they are these, I'd pass. But who knows, give them a listen!
Now if you were talking about JBL L100s...

JBL have certainly made some classics in their time, the L100's being one.

Joel, I remember the 18ti's - got rave reviews but had one of the first titanium domes back in the eighties.

Other classics include most of the studio monitors (44 series and their Japanese equivalents) and the mighty 250ti. A lot of JBL turns up on german EBay - I think the Germans still hold JBL in high esteem unlike us. The Jap models are tuned differently in the bass, offering less outright extension and greater speed. I'm surprised more of these are not found here given the small rooms we have to put up with.

    neyank,
thanks for that, i'm using a naim nap250 (70 wpc but lots of amps) do you reckon that'd be man enough for the job. are they stand mounts or floorstanders or those weird fish nor foul things that need a footstool to sit on.
    cheers

Fair 'nuff guv' I hoestly don't have an audio memory stretching back that far
:p but it sounds like they may well be worth a try in that case.
I thought they were those funky looking pyramidal speakers at first!

I seem to remember the 18's had appalling sensitivity too, much like the SL600 which was around at the same time.

I guess the pyramids you are on about were the 250L's or the 250L Ti. I'd love a pair but they still go for big money today and probably need reconing. Nice setup though, 14" bass, 10" mid, 5" upper mid, and a smooth 1" dome. Alledgedly the finest ever JBL!
