Beck will be inducted in Cleveland, Ohio in the United States on April 4, along with Little Anthony & The Imperials, Metallica, Run-DMC and Bobby Womack.

Beck, who has had a 40-year career, said: "It's a great thrill to be recognised by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, especially for the 25th anniversary.

"Nobody makes music for the honours but to take a place alongside so many of your own heroes is an indescribable feeling. I'm a very humbled and proud man right now."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland is dedicated to recording the history of some of the best-known figures in the music industry.

Beck also announced that promoter Harvey Goldsmith, who has worked with artists from The Who to Luciano Pavarotti, will manage him.

He said: "It's a great team and we have big plans, including new material and more performances."

Beck succeeded Eric Clapton in The Yardbirds and has recently collaborated with Morrissey.

He has already been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Yardbirds.

After The Yardbirds, Beck formed the Jeff Beck Group in 1967 with Ronnie Wood on bass, Aynsley Dunbar drumming and Rod Stewart on vocals. Since then, Beck has explored jazz, rock and pop".
